Lovely countryside around York, Western Australia

Shown is another view from the endurance ride we attended on Saturday. From this hill, we, and the riders, had a great view over the surrounding countryside. Vince took this photo and got some great shots of riders with the valley behind them. The riders know us well now and don’t mind posing for us if we ask them to. We don’t do it often but sometimes there is the chance for a really nice photo against an interesting background.

That is a great shot. I can almost imagine a conversation between the horses but I haven't figured out what they'd be saying to one another.

That's really cool, and the horses are amazing. As beautiful as both of them are, the brown one with its markings really stands out to me.

My father used to breed coloured horses and I had one as a child.

@JudyEv I think we call those pintos or paints. There is a difference between those two terms, but I've never understood it.

I think this is one of the prettier rides with good views from several of the hills.

Those hills look like our hills. What kind(s) of trees/bushes are those?

@JudyEv Ah, OK. Do you know if the eucalyptus trees we (Americans) imported are mostly of the same type? They are tall and pretty and invasive and catch fire easily. Our most common "bushy" trees in coastal California are called Live Oak, and we have several varieties here. Have they made it to Australia?

@TheHorse Yes, they're the same types as both areas have similar climates. What used to be called Corymbia ficafolia is I think the one that is now particularly invasive. I checked and the various Californian oaks are recommended here, again because they are suited to the climate.

They'd be gums (eucalypts) of some sort - the smaller ones might be mallee trees; the larger ones white gums, york gums, red gums.

Some rides are over much flatter ground but this is very picturesque.

@JudyEv There’s some really lovely countryside in WA it seems that doesn’t fit with the popular stereotype we have of Australia.

I think maybe we're mostly portrayed as hot and barren as in 'the outback'. We actually have more snow than Switzerland but of course we're a much bigger country.
