Hot and bothered

I did go back to bed and slept over an hour. It is 94 F or higher, and it reached that temperature before 9 a.m.
Bob is out doing an errand, and I have some projects to do.
I am bothered because lately I am getting lots of spam/scam calls when I am trying to take care of business.
Some of them, if I answer, I get just dead space.
Some of them want me to give money for police and sheriff department funds, and I am pretty sure they are a scam. I cannot get a word in edgewise.
Then there is Emily Watkins. I am going to guess she is a chat bot, because when I have answered it is always, Hi. I am Emily Watkins, you asked me to call you back do you remember? Of course I say no, and I told her today I had never spoken with her before.
Emily says she wants to sell me state sponsored burial insurance. I tell her I have insurance and she keeps going and going and going. She asked if she could say something, and I said "no". And hung up.
Fast talkers who do not listen bother me, and I suspect they are all AI robo dialers.
Time for me to work on more projects. You have a nice day, and stay cool and comfy. I will try to.

Yes, for the most part, they are all robocalls.
For many valid reasons, I still have a landline phone. One reason is that is how we buzz in visitors. My landline was quiet for over a month until it started ringing off the hook at the beginning of this month. All calls were alleged to be from my Internet/streaming/landline/cell phone provider, yet my account was in good standing. These monsters were calling me back-to-back, even after I called their bluff, so I called my provider to report them.
My phone numbers have been on the National Do Not Call list registry for years, but these guys still got through (and they are not firms that are exempt from Do Not Call lists). So, the rep I spoke to on my provider's customer service line battened down the hatches all the more by adding all of my contact information to every conceivable Do Not Contact list out there. I've had one phone call in the three weeks since, and am also no longer inundated with unsolicited emails.

@Chellezhere Rare it seems to have that much help. Thanks for sharing a positive response. I took out the landline when hubby would ignore it and I was calling due to an emergency. No need for the expense if it did not help me.

I have to answer any calls that come in because doctors can't use the same phone number twice but, if the person says something other than a doctors' name, I ask them to repeat it. If they don't repeat it so I can understand what they're saying, I hang up. If they're not calling from a doctors' office, I ask what business they're representing... If they don't give an answer I understand, I hang up.
When they're obviously robo-calls, I hang up.
We're done with the grocery shopping for several weeks now. We bought way too much stuff today.
I hope you've enjoyed your day.

I understand. I am expecting some important phone calls. I still manage to miss them. I am answering more than usual and that is how I am getting to know all these people.

@GardenGerty I get a lot of calls while I'm asleep. Then it takes me a little while to go back to sleep after I hang up.

I am mostly grumpy from the heat. I used to be really polite, but I finally got over it.

The extra phone calls make it worse.

Most of the calls I got on my landline were spam but I couldn't tell until I answered. Now with the cell phone, I can see that they're not from anybody I know. I only gave that number to a select few and they have a special ring. Of course, I'm still getting calls for the previous owner of this number.

The problem is that I am waiting for insurance and roofer calls. Otherwise if I do not know them I do not answer. If it is important they can leave a voice mail. When we had a landline we paid for caller ID.

Police fundraisers aren't technically a scam because they don't promise you something for your hard-earned money, and not deliver. We get them once a year. And, yes, it's hot. that's why I'm inside.

If they were for a genuine organization they are not a scam. This was not for a real organization that I have ever heard of.

I am waiting for a couple of important calls, so I am answering right now. Then it is back to the ignoring process.

I hardly ever answer the phone anymore; and when I do, I'm usually sorry that I did. Enjoy your day.

You need to register with the "do not call registry" to limit those scam callers. It won't stop them all but it does help.

I used to get those calls when I had a land line instead of a cell phone. When it was a call asking for money I would break into my favorite song:
Passengers will please refrain from flushing toilets while the train is in the station I love you,
While the train is in the station, we encourage constipation so that when the train is moving so will you.
It's amazing how fast the caller will hang up!! Or I would use my other favorite answer:
City morgue, you stab 'em, we slab 'em. Good ones go to heaven bad ones go to hell-o.
It was incredible how fast my spam calls stopped. My friends know that they shouldn't talk fast, and now with my cell phone their phone number shows up on the screen and if I don't recognize the number I don't answer the call.

I just will have to talk over them because they do not even breathe. I will not confirm my identity until they give me theirs. I also never answer "yes" to an introductory question due to them being able to record it for a response to something else. We have to be smarter than the bad guys.
