Dumbest Reason You've Ever Gone to the Doctor

No one likes going to the doctor, and a lot of us go to great lengths to avoid it. Some of you may be the type to wait until things are out of control before making an appointment. Have you ever seen those documentary TV shows where they reenact real cases of medical visits to the ER? The reasons aren't always grim, but funny on occasion. So, I was wondering, what is the dumbest reason you have ever gone to the doctor or seen some kind of medical professional? Maybe the injury isn't dumb, but how you incurred the injury or health problem is dumb.

Maybe the time I fainted because they showed a documentary at school that involved surgery. I was at the front of the class really close to the tv and I guess I couldn't take it.

Oh, that’s like the worst ever. You poor kid! Mine was that I broke my little toe as a child, didn’t go get it fixed, and it healed with the toe turned sideways. Finally, had to go to the doctor for that.

Well three years ago when I was pregnant with my littlest I had back pain and thought it was a bladder infection and didn’t want to risk going into labor. It wasn’t it was a pinched nerve.

I remember back in 2012 or so I went to the Urgent Care Clinic not far from here because I had an ear ache, turns out I had wax build up and all they could do to get the wax out was flush my ear with warm water until it all came out.

@rebelann Oh, wow, an hour. Earaches are up there with migraines in most painful things (in my book).

I suppose about an hour or so, I only remember wishing they'd hurry and get whatever was causing the pain out of my ear.

When I grabbed a hot pan from the oven thinking I was wearing a mitten and I was not wearing it. I had to go to the ER because I badly burned the palm of my hand.

I like those kind of shows, some of the reasons, and such can be funny for sure. Nice to see when they outcome is good though. Dumbest reason for me? Taking too much insulin that my blood sugar dropped so low it couldn't even be read on a blood sugar checker thing! Could have been avoided if I had taken the right amount.

Growing up, we only went to yearly checkups - I rarely went to the doctor for anything else. I do remember a friend whose parents sent her to the doctor or dentist for every little thing . . . I remember she went for every canker sore she'd get .

Oh, you’ll love this one. When I was in the Navy my mom decided she was going to have this red mole I’d had on my nose all my life taken off the next time I came home on leave. I casually mentioned that to a co-worker, and the next thing you know my education officer is breathing down my neck, wanting to know what I’m going to do to government property (military individuals’ bodies are considered “government property,” so you can literally be written up for “destruction of government property” over something like a sunburn ). As a result, I had to go to sick call (which is for sick people, not for this stupidity) to get a doctor to verify that there was nothing wrong with the mole and it wouldn’t cause an international crisis if my mom went ahead with her nefarious scheme to have it removed while I was home on leave. Sheesh.

I remember going to the ER back in the 80's when I had an ear ache and was really tired, like exhausted-but it turns out that I was pregnant. The ear ache was totally unrelated.

Back when I was in grade school, I was in gym class. You know those old wooden bleachers? I got a splinter in my thigh and couldn't get it out. I needed to go to the doctor to have it removed. It was an inch long. Those were the days when you could call the doctor and get an appointment right away, not wait three months minimum.

@AmbiePam I don't go to the doctor today except for the wellness exam. I have that this month. I'll try to talk to him and hope he listens. Getting an appointment any other time is useless. It's best to go to the ER or Urgent Care if I need a doctor right now. My last ER visit was in January when I broke my back making a snowman. Then I went by ambulance because I couldn't walk. That was an emergency. Otherwise, I don't go to the doctor or ER.

@AmbiePam I have a good reason when I see a doctor, but anyone could be extremely worried about something not that important.

As a young and first time mother, I would go for booking an appointment with the paediatrician for every simple reason. It was a new mom syndrome and it got better with time. I am a diabetic and so go for a full body checkup twice a year. That covers up for my doctor visits. I don't go to doctor frequently.

I really cannot think of any reason that was odd or dumb, other than this year when I swole up and had "parotitis" I went to urgent care for it on the weekend. On Monday when I followed up with my primary care doctor and most of the swelling was gone, but she said I still looked "quite impressive."

I don’t just mean an insufficient reason, but dumb, like breaking your foot when kicking something. You’d have a real need to go to the doctor, but it would be for a dumb reason.

I go to the doctor only in times of real need. I recall a visit to the dentist who started shaking all my teeth vigorously to an extent one came out lose right away.

Okay so I need to tell this. When I went to the roller coaster rides at Cedar for the first time and felt that I was swinging and going down for the next whole 3 days. I went to the doctor in our college and said is something wrong with me. That was very dumb I must say. But that’s what happens when u try roller coaster at 20.

In fact I am that kind of a person that would wait until things are very tough before I can go to see the doctor.
