"Macarena" originally was released on a 1993 album by the Spanish pop duo of Los del Rio. A remix by Miami-based producers The Bayside Boys became an international hit in 1996-97. It scored #1 in the US on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Cash Box Top 100.
The inspiration for the song: Los del Rio was invited to tour South America in 1992. In Venezuela they saw a local flamenco teacher perform. Antonio of the Los del Rio duo started writing a song, using Diana's (the flamenco dancer) name in the song. He later changed it to his daughter's name, Macarena.
Do you remember the Macarena? Have you ever done the Macarena?

I have, it was the in tune at clubs or dances in the 90s...and even wedding receptions.

Yes, it's fun to do; and the music is good.

I have been told that some of the lyrics actually are a bit risque, but elementary aged kids still like to do the dance and hear the song.

Yes, they are. When I watched the video, they had the lyrics on the screen.

@LindaOHio It's mostly a good memory. She'd fall asleep on the way home and I'd carry her in the house and put her on the couch in the living room.
She'd ask why she was on the couch the next morning and I'd tell her because I didn't want her throwing up on me during the night.

That is one of the craziest songs and I love it. I enjoy the animated movies Hotel Transylvania and in the third movie in the series, this song saved all the monsters.

I remember when this song hit the charts so well for some reason. It would get stuck in my head, and never go away!
It doesn’t look like Valerie has responded yet, but she’s got a great moment involving that dance I hope she mentions on here.

I’ve eaten macaroon-a desserts. Does that count?
