For a change, is there any movie you would actually want remade?

Most of us don’t like or appreciate the constant remakes of movies that were perfect the first time around. I mean, did we really need a newer version of the classic movie, “Psycho”? However, maybe there was a movie that had a great premise, it just wasn’t executed well. Or, the movie was based on your favorite book, and it just didn’t tell the story very well. Is there a movie out there that you would actually want a remake of the original?

The novel by L. Ron Hubbard, Battlefield Earth, was really good. I couldn't wait to watch the movie when it came out and was so disappointed. I think it would be MUCH better (There's no way it could get any worse.) if the movie was redone now so all the effects from the book could be done with CGI.

That got panned so badly, I think you’re right, it could only go up.

@DaddyEvil No, I hadn’t even heard of the book until the movie came out.

I can't think of any such movie. I feel that the originals are the best. The parts following to it loose the surprise factor

I went and read a synopsis, and I’m with you, I’d change the ending.

I have a lot of movies on video and usually, I do not like remakes. At one time I went through all the Psycho movies and came to the conclusion that the one original Psycho was good enough, I did appreciate the Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks movie You Got Mail because it was a romantic remake of the original In the Good Old Summertime with Judy Garland and Van Johnson which was a musical and times change and no one writes letters anymore to a remake was due. I have both movies on video and watch them now and then, If you can find the Garland musical it is well worth watching.

I think @Sissy15 was talking about the Judy Garland/Van Johnson movie once. I’d like to see it.

I wish I could answer this but I'm honestly not sure. I know sometimes I go into remakes hesitantly and once in a great while I get surprised by how great it is.

That's a good question. Maybe Angela's Ashes The book was so much better than the movie turned out to be.

Decades ago I read and loved the book Exodus. The movie had nothing to do with it in spite of having Paul Neuman in the main role. I think that if a book is too much for a movie, it can be done in a sort of serial, as The Godfather movies.

The only movie I can think of is E.T. but I doubt they'd find the kind of talent that the actors in the first one had.

The special effects were great for the 1980s, weren’t they.

The acting was great, these days it seems many actors aren't very convincing .... there weren't that many special effects outside of the flying bicycle and as for E.T., if they did a remake E.T. would be more or less a cartoon like in Avatar.

The only thing I can remember is an episode of a series. I told myself I could write it better. It's how I started writing. I can't think of a movie I would see a remake of that was done badly the first time.

Nope, no remakes. I don't even care a lot for sequels. It's as if Hollyweird just doesn't know how to make anything original anymore. I noticed they are going to reboot Frasier this Oct.. but not all the original cast will be in it. The ones that played Roz, Daphne and Niles will make some guest appearances. The reboot will focus on Frasier and his son Frederick, who wasn't in the original series but a handful of episodes. This is the only show I thought was way better then the series it spun off of, Cheers.

I might want a remake of a few movies with some changes. May be some Bollywood movies with lesser songs. Or a different ending. I might like to have "No Time to Die" being remade with a different ending. Or a few Harry Potter movies with a few parts changed.

Well said. Pyscho can be remade but I think the new version cannot come close to the original presented by Alfred Hitchcock. In Tamil language a movie was released with the same title but with a different plot. Forrest gump is my suggestion

That one crossed my mind, but I've found people so defensive of that movie. I have also heard people say it was offensive, but I think that is just the opinion of people in a currently over sensitive society.

I can't think of one movie I would like to see a remake of. I think for the most part movies I have seen that were a remake of another movie, I have found I like the original better anyways. Come up with something new is watch I say. All these remakes and prequals and part 52 of a series. I'm not interested in seeing the same thing over and over.
