A dog is going to 'vet' us one day soon

Over the past twelve months we’ve done quite a bit of house-sitting, mostly on farms or smallholdings. There are always pets and/or other creatures to care for.
We had a call from a lady who would like us for five days in late November. We have a few restrictions on what we’re prepared to do and we discuss those with the owners before accepting an assignment.
The ‘sit’ in November involves three cats, a dog and two horses, and a rabbit in a bird cage. The dog is a kelpie-cross and apparently a bit of a Mummy’s boy so she is bringing him to us beforehand so we can all meet. Hopefully, we’ll pass muster with the dog. Mostly it’s the humans who get most worried and the pets are always fine. Let’s hope this turns out to be the same.

When I was in the hospital then rehab for 16 days my pup Ally refused to let Hank touch her, she was completely freaked out and as for the cats, Hank told me he never saw any of them but he knew they were there because they'd eat the food. Some pets do well even when their humans leave, some don't. Of course the difference is that Hank and sometimes his wife Carol only came to feed them twice a day so maybe that wasn't enough for Ally to feel comfortable with them.

As long as the dog isn't inclined to bite new people, I don't see a problem. Uhm.... you do have Vince up on his shots, right?

Treats work a treat with dogs. The place in halfway to my sister's so we're now going to drop in there one day soon to 'meet the dog' and be shown our duties. They want to leave early on D Day but there won't be a spare room for us until they leave so best to go up there soon and find out what we'll need to do.

@judyev Just smile and nod when you meet the woman and once she’s gone do your own thing and the dog will be fine. That’s how my wife manages our daughter-in-law when she goes to mind the grandchildren and the kids have a great time once fussy mother has gone out and they come to no harm.

That's what we do mostly and, like your wife's actions, it works well. Most pets settle really well. Perhaps it's good they can't talk though.

@JudyEv So will you be taking the dog with you and keep with you in your house?

@allknowing No. When the time comes, we will be staying in their house so the animals should all be cool. It's just their carers who will be different.

I would love watching a bunch of animals, especially dogs. I'm sure the dog will love you two. Have a good weekend.

@JudyEv All they want is someone to love them, feed them and play with them.

That's a lot of animals to take care of. With your experience, you won't have any problem with the dog.
