What do you do when you have no power?

What do you do when a power line goes down and your building has no power, only emergency lights, and no internet? You have an hour long recess, of course, while the police block the road and the emergency repairs are made. This is the kind of morning we had.

I have very little experience, but the day it happened, I went out and worked in the garden.

That compares to us having recess.

How fun. Hopefully, my phone would be charged, but if not I head to my dad’s house, assuming they have power. I’m sorry you had to mess with that problem today.

It depends on the time of the day. But I am always happy lying down in bed, closing my eyes and day dream.

I hope you have power by now. We now have a standby generator that automatically kicks on when the power goes out. Have a good weekend.

I think they had some back up for emergency lights, but in general everything just stopped.

If it's summertime, I'm likely out in my garden and wouldn't notice, but this time of year? I'd haul out my crank radio and light a candle.

The weather is still pretty nice so being outside worked out for us.

I may contact the relevant party so that it can be repaired immediately.

We have installed a Home UPS that takes care of our lights, fans, tv and the pc.

Do what I do with every power outage regardless of circumstances. I first wait five minutes. Then I'll give Florida and power and Light a call to report the outage. I then check the charge on my and my husband's daily drivers to ensure we have access to phone service. I have two back up batteries on hand, so if needed I will charge our phones, first. Then check to make sure we have batteries in all our battery operated lights and such. Turn off things like the AC to prevent damage from serges. All the things any responsible person does during a power failure. Then wait. Go to the coolest room, if possible to stay comfortable for as long as possible.

This does not happen often, but many were unprepared. We all need some contingency plans.

@GardenGerty I was a girl scout and my husband a boycott. We're always prepared.

I hope you found something to do. I would use my laptop until it has a low battery.

No, it isn't. I imagine if they could not get it fixed the kids would have been dismissed early, but I am not sure.

What a nuisance. Usually, the first thing I think of when the power goes off is that I might as well do the ironing - then I realise I have no power! I don't know how many times that's happened to me. You'd think I'd realise by now that I can't iron without power! lol

Certain things just make us want to do what cannot, or should not.
