Caught in the act / myLot

Today I was working (at home) when I heard someone struggling to push something through the letter-box. After this went on for a few seconds I ran to the door and yanked it open – and in came (almost fell) the lady delivering the parish newsletter, with her fingers still in the letterbox. Literally caught in the act, with a strangely half-surprised/ half-guilty kind of expression on her face. How we laughed! It was lucky she didn’t fall face first onto the doormat! @fleura I do believe that Sue, the object of the affections of Ernie the driver of the fastest milk cart in the west, also lived at number 22. But that’s probably lost on a young thing like you.

I wonder who was most surprised. When I was younger, it seemed a very strange thing to me that letters were poked through front doors. Suburban houses in Australia were all built back off the street with at least a small front garden and a letter-box on the fence.

Houses here have front gardens too, but still have letter boxes in the doors usually, so the postman/woman has to walk up and down an awful lot of garden paths!

@Fleura I guess in the past they encountered a lot of dogs too. Maybe they still do.
