Melbourne Cup race for humans

I’ve written about the Melbourne Cup luncheon we went to. There was a prize for the best hat and many ladies wore ‘fascinators’ which is such a great word for the bits of froth and lace that some of the ladies wore. You can see some of the headgear in the photo.
After the race had been fun and we’d had our meal, it was time for a few games. One was a ‘race’ where six people had a hobby horse each with fly swats for whips. Two big foam rubber dice were rolled. One gave the number of the ‘horse’ and the second gave the number of paving squares it was to move forward.
It was a simple game but both participants and onlookers had a lot of laughs during the ‘race’.

I'm sure the contestants as well as the audience had a good time.

@DaddyEvil Most would be in their late 60s I guess with a couple of 70-year-olds.

Sounds like a lot of fun. Looks like the Kentucky Derby with all the fascinators. I'm glad you had a good time. Hope you and Vince have a fabulous day.

I guess that's Vince and you ( black attire) in the picture. It's fun to participate in such kinds of games. Winning or loosing doesn't matter, you enjoy and laugh throughout
Some really nice headgears in the picture

@judyev Fascinators baffle me. Why ladies, why??! I saw one at a wedding and was about to tell the lady attached to it that she had something caught in her hair. My wife knows me quite well and was able to intervene in time to avoid embarrassment.

One of our specialty stores here had a great variety of fascinators in various styles and lots of different colours, and they were very reasonably priced. Hats can be incredibly expensive sometimes. I'm glad your wife stopped you making a fool of yourself.

I saw some clips of that just the other day. It's all very well but I was amazed that there were spectators.
