Introducing Luca

The dog in the photo is Luca. We are looking after him and three cats until Monday while his owners attend the wedding of their son. He is quite a big, solid dog but hasn’t been much trouble so far. He has spent most of his time on the owners’ bed but several times through the evening, he has apparently seen something outside and has had a barking fit. So I’ve closed the blinds in there and hopefully he won’t keep us awake all night barking at rabbits/foxes or whatever else he thinks he can see.

@JudyEv That was good thinking. I'm glad he doesn't bark as much now. And yes, little yappy dogs bug me more than big barking dogs.

He could probably see a rabbit or someone walking their dog. Once I closed the blinds we had no more trouble. I don't like dogs barking either, especially little yappy ones.

If you live with a pup long enough you can tell if it's a person they're barking at.

@rebelann Yes, I'm sure that's true. Our corgi is to bark at sleep lizards but growl if he came across a snake.

He is a lovely dog and easy to care for. We've just come back from taking him for a walk. He has acres to roam in but he doesn't go off on his own at all.

Luca is a big dog, I am sure that his bark would be a loud one. He looks like he has rotweiller in him.

His mother was a rescue and had a little of pups with her. Luca was one of them. The marks above the eyes look like kelpie but I'd agree that there could be rottweiller too. He is quite a big dog.

I am not sure but some tales go around saying that dogs see spirits during the night. Well, we cannot be sure! Do you also need to take him to morning or evening stroll?

We've only taken him for a couple of walks. He has several acres to roam in if he wants to but mostly he hangs around us.

Really?? You can't see any other houses from this one but the dog sleeps on the bed in the main bedroom and he can see the road.

I think he is a disciplined dog. That's the reason he doesn't trouble you all. Kittu to keeps barking if he sees a cat, or another dog, hen etc.

I enjoy it when dogs find things to bark at. Or chase. I know they're "keeping me safe." But I think it's a good idea to close the blinds so you can get some sleep. Heh.
