About my trips to Detroit this year. Part One

Chipped beef on toast © 2023

[If I'm able to get my picture to load it's of my lunch today. I had chipped beef over toast which is made by Stouffer's. @porwest shared his meal of chipped chicken over toast something I never heard of before. (If the pic doesn't load I'll downsize it on my computer and try again]. I'm the oldest of six kids. Two live in other states. One sister has lived in Detroit since she went to college there and the rest live in my general area. My sister in Detroit has the beginnings of Alzheimer's. Years ago before that showed up she knew she'd move back home one day but thought that day was still in the future. But, we're planning on moving her this next spring. We were hoping she'd be ready early this year but she wasn't. We didn't realize at the time that she'd probably never be 'ready'. Since Oct of 2022 I began going with my youngest sister, T, to help her start getting ready. T would stay overnight and return the next day. When I began going we only went for the day. For the most part I've only worked in her mail which she rarely opens other than bills. We divide her papers into shred, recycle and trash. My sister T then takes what I consider shred home to go through again and shreds it herself. Each month we cleared off several areas in M my Detroit sister's dining room. But working a few months those surfaces was loaded again. Last month when we went I suggested we go through her storage in the basement. I feel we made more of a dent down there than upstairs.

I know that she is glad too even though it's hard for her to part with stuff.

Good she has you. So many don't have anyone. Best of luck to you and T.

@popciclecold my brother that lives in the area will take a covered trailer that he owns down to Detroit when we're ready to move her and nephews might be helping so that part isn't left up to us girls.

@MarshaMusselman You're welcome. I don't really believe in luck, either... I do hope everything works out for your sister, though.

@DaddyEvil we plan on moving her in the spring even if she still has too much stuff. We plan on getting a storage unit for her extra things and going thru them here. My sister that's coming here probably had twelve bins in her room filled with clothes and more bins in her spare room that I'm guessing also has clothes in them.

Thanks. We need all the luck there is. Although, I don't really believe in luck.

@RebeccasFarm we're sorry about this too. Maybe getting her out of her cluttered apartment will slow down the progress of the disease.

@MarshaMusselman My husband has serious memory problems now. I do not let him drive alone anymore.

@LadyDuck that's good. I don't know how long my sister will be driving once she moves here.

I'm hoping that all works out too. She still drives up to visit a couple times a year and I'd hate for her to get lost before she moves.

It's so good you're able to help her with this. As you say, she will probably never be ready. Now is probably as ready as she'll ever be.

Moving is always a big ordeal so I'm hoping it all goes smoothly. My sister here is trying to talk her out of taking her entertainment center. It's a large wood piece and very heavy. Her new place is up a flight of steps and we don't want our relatives to get hurt moving that. She doesn't want to get rid of it because it was the first piece she ever bought.

@JudyEv maybe but it's not really needed. There's a TV that was left in the condo and that hangs on the wall.

@MarshaMusselman Can you get removalists to shift just the one thing? Is that an option?

That looks quite different than my chipped beef. For example, mine uses a brown gravy/sauce mixture. But I will say that in the picture looks VERY good.

Thanks, Judy. She will be living in a condo near my sister, T, who will stop in every few days and make sure it stays clutter free. Since a lot of her extra things will go to storage until it can be gone through that should help. And she has a large walk in closet.
