Oncoming train?

Several times this past year, I've definitely seen that "light at the end of the tunnel" and it really was a train. But with God's grace and healing mercy, I survived it. We all at times see that oncoming train. Sometimes it’s a physical illness, sometimes the loss of a loved one, or other losses like income, relationships, or spiritual experiences. What do you do when you see that train coming in the distance? Do you face it and prepare for the worst? Do you look the other way and hope it doesn't run over you? We all react to problems in life in different ways. I could easily be one who just doesn't want to deal with it, no matter what it is. This year has forced me to deal with it. Some people have said I've been strong. But sometimes you have no choice and that's when you put your trust in God and He gives you the strength to be brave. He never said we wouldn't have troubles in this life, but He did promise to walk with us through them. I can absolutely say without a doubt that Jesus kept that promise. I'm doing well after the surgery this week and I pray I'm one step lol closer to foot surgery sometime after Christmas. So, those trains just keep coming, but that's life, isn't it? Don't face those train wrecks by yourself. God loves you more than you could ever imagine. He can turn those oncoming trains into a light at the end of the tunnel. But either way, you won't be alone.

Amen to that, Vicki. You have had a lot of trains, that’s for sure. I saw the most in my twenties, and I never would have avoided them without Him. I can’t imagine what facing cancer was even like.

I'm glad that you are still here. Last year was one for the books when it came to my hubby's health.

@1creekgirl He is better though much weaker than he has been in his life. He shuffle walks. I am grateful that he has enough energy to at least do some things.

I agree with most things there’s nothing we can do but keep going. I have been called strong so much and it annoys me. I’m not strong I just haven’t had any other choice and cannot give up when I have children to raise. You have been through so much and are such a sweet person. I wasn’t aware you needed foot surgery though what is that for?

@1creekgirl having to lay around will be frustrating I know the feeling as I had toe surgery years back. It’ll be good when it’s all better to walk on though after it heals. That’s really ironic how your foot gave you a break during treatments like that.

@shaggin Isn't that the wildest thing? Has your foot given you anymore trouble?

@1creekgirl well I had a hammer toe they call it and that was what was repaired. But now the toe next to it hurts me so bad to walk that I have a very hard time. Without the little toe curled under it the other toe is curling. I’d need surgery to fix this one too but I cannot do it. My kids were old enough to fend for themselves while I laid around for weeks at a time with my feet up to heal. I can’t do that with a two year old.

We all have those times we need to rely on someone or something outside ourselves when life gets tough. One thing at a time..though Vicki and I hope you can get that foot surgery soon!

Very nice analogy. I go through stages. . . I refuse to face whatever it is, after that I get really calm and step up to whatever challenge there is, even knowing that God is there with me. If the challenge involves me suddenly having to drive somewhere stressful (i.e. emergency room out of town) I sing myself there. Yes, good old fashioned hymns. I just realized that last weekend. But I have done it before.

That's a great way to destress! I've always been a timid driver, but when our first grandkids were little, they lived in a very big city. I drove on that belt line, praying out loud every mile!

If you believe in God you can face any thing that happens in your life and move on. Sometimes it is really hard to move on.

Most of the time there is not a lot we can do, just keep going hoping that the train will not run over us.

Still don't believe in god but do believe we're never alone. Due to family and friends. Not sure why you had surgery but glad you're healing.

Hey, how are you? I've missed your posts somehow. The surgery was to remove a hip abscess that developed a fistula (tunnel.) But I'm doing pretty good, thanks.

I'm glad to hear that you're doing well. How is your hubby doing? I have a tendency to dread the train; but so far I've surprised myself and dealt with it fairly well. I guess God's grace has pulled me through. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

The story of my life. I know it is a tired phrase but it's one I believe in, that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. It's ALWAYS a freaking train. But you get to a point where you are no longer surprised by it, come to expect it, and find any way you can to avoid being hit, and hopefully become rather resourceful in avoiding it as well.
