Ollies: A Fun Place to Shop for Deals

Have you ever been to an Ollie's store? It's basically a hodge podge of closeouts and blowout deals and I'd have to say it's a pretty fun store to walk through. They have everything from household goods to certain food items, rugs, games, toys, pretty much anything you could possibly think of. As stores like this go, deals come and go and there's always something new and interesting popping up. The prices are pretty good too. I once bought a $200 scissor foot camping grill for $79. And the other day I picked up a 4 ounce container of oregano for less than $3. I like stores like this because it's like a huge virtual "junk" sale, but all brand name and new stuff. It's fun to see what new things show up to look at. And like I said, you do often find some pretty good deals. It's a bit of a trek, about 40 minutes from my house. But it is a fun little place to go to from time to time just to get out of the house for a bit and while I don't necessarily enjoy that kind of shopping, this kind for me is actually fun. There are funny sayings and signs throughout the store as well. One of them that caught my attention said, "Never criticize your wife's choices. Remember, you were one of them."

We have one here but I’ve never gone. Stores like that make me nuts. The only one I will occasionally go to is HomeGoods.

When it comes to shopping, unless it is grocery shopping, I just hate it. But stores like Ollie's have so many unique finds it actually makes it fun for me. So, it's my kind of store.

It sounds a lot like Big Lots. I like that saying.

@porwest The last time I was in Big Lots, it was much better, cleaner than previously, and was a bigger store. We don't have Ollie's here.

@just4him I do think it varies by location. It's rare I am ever in one anymore, but the one we have here is a garbage dump. lol

Personally I think it is way better than Big Lots and about 2 1/2 times bigger with many more items. Much more organized and clean too.

I have never been to one, but I know where one is and we may go on our next trip to Wichita.

It's a fun store. At least I find it to be.

We have an Ollie's about 20-25 minutes away. Hubs likes looking around there. Have a great day.

There is always something interesting to find, which is why I like it. And I HATE shopping in general.

@LindaOHio I can understand the reason in your case, but I still prefer bricks and mortar.

@porwest They have a website, and you can get all the same deals there and get them shipped to your house. LOL. Ours is 40 miles from home or 10 miles from where we are staying to do all my medical stuff.

@thislittlepennyearns I just prefer bricks and mortar. Granted, I use Amazon. But mostly I prefer to actually physically shop stores. I think shopping online "misses" real deals. At least that has been my experience.

Agreed. Sometimes stores like this are quite a bit overrated. But I have found some REALLY good deals there. Only my 2nd visit as I just recently discovered it. But it will definitely be a regular trip. Maybe once every couple of months or so. Being about 40 minutes away it's not entirely convenient.

Glad you were able to find one, and they have a section, at least at ours, where there is flooring and rugs and other stuff. Plus, the prices are not half bad. But of course, like any place, not everything is automatically a bargain.

I like that sign! We don’t have an Ollie’s store here, but we have a similar store. I don’t think it as good as Ollie’s must be though.

I have been in some others. Ollie's certainly ranks higher than many I have been in. But I find all of these kinds of stores more a fun way to shop.

I have one near where I live. I don't go that often but have found toys, books for the kids there and sometimes I pick up some of those food. I should get the teachers hot chocolate packs from there.

It's nice since they tend to get new things in each week. So, it makes it even more fun to shop.

There’s one not too far from the VA clinic. I’ve been in it a couple of times but didn’t buy anything.

It's far enough away for me that when I go there, there's something I know I need that it makes sense and so I always get something. Spices are really cheap there.

I have been here more than 10 years and never knew the place existed until I was doing some stock research on discount chains and Ollie's came up. I became curious, and the rest is history.

We have Ollies here in Florida but I order online I have no way to get anywhere. I think they also accept online orders but I am not familiar with their merchandise,

I am not sure if Ollie's does online either. I imagine they probably do. Seems like they are all going to similar offerings these days.

It's a fun store to shop in, and that's saying something since "fun shopping" is not usually fun to me. lol
