Most people think they are just for decoration. . .

I am talking about the miniature pumpkins the stores have in the fall.
For one of our classroom projects we bought some. I did not get around to decorating the one they gave me. So today I cooked it.
I had heard of doing this, so I did.
I cut the little white pumpkin in half. It was less than three inches across. After scooping out the strings and seeds, I put in a pat of butter. Then a shake of cinnamon and nutmeg. Spoonful of sugar. I was out of brown so I used white. Then I finished stuffing the halves with raisins.
Using a microwave safe dish, I put the pumpkin in the microwave. I did put about an inch of water in the dish. Microwaved for four minutes. It was tender, moist and sweet. A pretty healthy dessert.
There are other things people assume are for decoration. Things like a parsley sprig on the plate, or a thin orange slice. I eat them all.

I never had purchased one. This was given to me and it seemed "lonely", plus fall decorating is past. I hate to waste things and basically I fixed it the way we sometimes fix acorn squash.

I do too!! I love parsley. Maybe the other things are not so much. I gag as I try to swallow pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and squash. I don't care for oranges much.

Hmmm. All these orange foods that you cannot eat. Maybe you have too much vitamin A. Parsley is supposed to help digestion and freshen your breath.

@celticeagle That is why they always told us to eat dark orange foods, to get our Vitamin A. Parsley is a good flavoring.

Exactly. It had been sitting here all lonely, so I ate it.

Either you should eat them or the wildlife should. I saved the seeds from my mini pumpkin and my acorn squash. Maybe I will have a garden this year.

Oh, the big ones are good too, for lots of things besides pumpkin pie. Pumpkin soup is good and so is roasted pumpkin. To me winter squash and pumpkin taste about the same.

@GardenGerty I always heard the big ones were not good for pie at all. Like I said, I could be wrong. I am not a pumpkin expert. lol

I like butternut squash and acorn squash and many others. The all taste about the same and you can fix them many ways.

Almost too small to deal with, but very tasty.
