Candles for Christmas - and other occasions

You might all wonder why I’m writing about this photo but I found it intriguing. These candles were on all the tables at the restaurant we went to the other night.
They look very realistic but the ‘flame’ is lit by a battery. You might be able to see a little wire going through the base of the flame. The heat from the battery light causes the flame to move one way and a tiny counterweight at the bottom of the flame brings it back to centre so the flame seems to flicker back and forth.
I find candles messy and potentially dangerous but I might look out for some like this.

@RebeccasFarm Vin's sister and husband arrive today around lunchtime then his younger brother and his daughter on Boxing Day. They'll all stay a day or two.

I use artificial, battery-operated candles myself. They have that “flickering” motion like a “real” candle, but without the danger of burning the house down.

@JudyEv — I have a couple that have built-in timers: they stay on for about eight hours then shut themselves off. Battery operated, too!

@FourWalls That's a great idea to have a timer on them.

That is pretty. I like candles but only burn them when I can stay near or if the electricity is off.

@JudyEv We had a barn cat stick her tail in the fire outside one time. Thankfully we were there and seen her.

@wolfgirl569 That could have been very nasty. It's good you were on hand.

Some candles just smell so good. I am burning a Yankee Balsam and Cedar candle right now, and it as such a nice, woodsy fragrance.

That's cool. I prefer artificial candles. As you said, candles can be dangerous.

Battery powered candles are quite cool. They come in a lot of different styles. Hope you and Vince have a wonderful Christmas Eve.

We have some similar battery operated "candles" at home.
The real candles are a bit f hassle although we use them during the Diwali time.
May be you can try such battery operated ones at your home.

I'll be looking out for some like these or at least battery operated. I like the fact that they're safe.

My sister gave me some artificial candles that were battery operated but made of real wax.

I was intrigued by how they made the 'flame' appear to flicker.
