Gotham Steel Bacon Bonanza Delivers

I usually don't fall for "gimmicks," and to me, most of the things we tend to find in our kitchens are essentially that. Although, that can also be a hotly debated topic depending on who you talk to. But you won't find an air fryer or an Instant Pot or even a deep fryer in my house. The latter may be a bit surprising since I happen to be an Illinois transplanted Wisconsinite who also happens to be a huge fan of beer battered fish fry. I just fry my fish in a Dutch oven on the stovetop. In any event, I have to say that the Gotham Steel copper pan Bacon Bonanza did manage to strike my fancy, and while still gimmicky, managed to deliver in more ways than one, according to me. One, it was really easy to use. You simply place the bacon fat side up into the divider tray and bake for about 20-30 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit depending on thickness and your desired level of crispy. Two, it was easy to clean, being that it is made of a non-stick ceramic coating. The bacon literally slides right off the divider tray. No sticking and perfect, evenly cooked bacon strips. Three, the bacon grease that was separated in the bottom pan was twice the amount I'd get from cooking it on a baking sheet in the oven or a pan on the stovetop, making the bacon noticeably quite a bit leaner. Four, the grease I collected was pure and clean. Which is a plus since I like to save the grease to use to cook with for other dishes. All in all, I think it was worth buying and will probably become the only way I cook bacon now for a long time to come. I have to say I was impressed. And when it comes to me, that really is saying something.

I’ve heard of Gotham cookware but not the bacon bonanza. Seems like a useful thing to have. Do you have anything else from them? You see commercials where nothing sticks to the pan. The eggs slide off with ease. Is that really true I wonder.

I don't have any other items from them. I might if they made bigger pans but the ones they sell are too small.

It is, for me, an interesting thing. And I would not normally say that about something like this.

@porwest I would just bake the bacon or pan-fry it. I do love my Instant Pot though.

@NJChicaa That's how I did it before this. Baked it on a baking sheet, but the nice thing about this thing is that it completely separates the grease from the bacon making it leaner. Plus, the grease was super clean making it better for later use to cook other things with.

Not quite the same, but I was pleasantly surprised by a plastic microwave dish for cooking bacon. It actually works really well!

@porwest This is more like a plastic griddle pan. They are cheap to buy, I think it was £1, but apparently the inventor became a millionaire from it.

I have seen those, if it is the same one I am thinking of. Has a rack of sorts that you drape the bacon over and the grease collects on a round dish on the bottom of it. I think that would work rather well as well.

We have an air fryer but it was a waste of money. We don't use it at all. We don't really have the space for bench-top appliances.
