Guess what?!! No school tomorrow either.
Wind chill is pretty bad. Rural roads are drifting shut. The school district just called.
I knew that some schools were still closed or closed again, but the ones I knew about were an hour away.
Oh, and I have chili for supper tonight. Wonderful.

Chili and snowed in weather, perfect together! The school kids will be thrilled, parents not so much...

So how many days is it now that your school's been closed? Will they tack on extra days in the summer to make up for the lost time?

They build three days into the calendar, I think. Then if we do not use them, we get out early. I think this is the fourth full day. There has been one or two late start days as well.

Good weather to stay in and hibernate. I wouldn't be surprised if schools are closed here tomorrow too, and for Wednesday. Not so much snow,,,but people here aren't used to extreme temps and it will be in the single digits tomorrow night.

We're not experiencing the snow and drifting snow and all the ice and horrible cold like you are, but we still are freezing when I get up. This morning when I got out of bed it was 23 degrees and I had to argue with myself about getting out of a nice warm bed. I finally gave in to my naggy self and got up. It was 50 degrees in the apartment so I HAD to turn on the heater.
I heard some racket going on in the carport area, so I peeked and there was a gentleman piling stuff in the back of his truck, my cat side was really curious, and I threw on some clothes and went down to see what was going on. It was my neighbor below me's son who had come up from Chino to work with the lady's daughter to clear out a bunch of stuff from the carport storage and her apartment so there was less chance of her falling. The gentleman filled the big recycling bin on his own with the woman's boxes. She had stockpiled them expecting to move closer to her sons and the casinos. She loves to play the slot machines and if she were to move close to them, she would be playing the slots constantly...and losing constantly. I'm going to save and buy her a slot machine bank that works like a real one, maybe it will placate her some. At least she won't be supporting the casinos, she will be saving her money and if she wins and spends the money she will be wining her own money. The son I spoke to was in a hurry, so he really didn't listen to my suggestion. The lady is 91 years old and doesn't have too long a road ahead, so giving her a slot machine bank might take care of her desire. The sons think she's better off up here with her daughter simply because of the fact that it's a woman taking care of a woman. Anyhow, I hate to see the lady in such misery, and so lonely.
One thing about the cold weather, I have really tackled the jobs I have put off. Today I tackled sorting the mohair pieces and have the pieces that need to be washed separated so I can wash them and hang them up to dry. Since mohair is a wool I can't machine dry them, as they will shrink and become misshapen. I may do those on Thursday. I have a bunch of smaller pieces that will be great for miniature bears. That's something I couldn't do in snowy weather because I would hang them outside and they would become "fabricsicles". As I said in a previous discussion, the picture was a great reminder of what I'm not missing. While the snow is beautiful, I don't miss the cold that comes with it.

I am doing a few things that I have put off. I should do more, but I am sitting under a heated blanket and earning pennies online. I am cooking a lot and making hubby eat more.

The schools here were closed for the MLK holiday, and they are closed again tomorrow. Roads are bad and wind chill is very low as well. Enjoy your day off and your chili!

Same here. We had an optional inservice, but my car would not start, so I did not go.

@GardenGerty
I think a lot of people here had that problem as well, extreme cold is hard on car batteries.

The big problem is the snow is not melting, too cold. And it blows over the rural roads making things impassable.
