I mentioned that I had not bought eggs when I shopped, because they were so expensive. Ellen, my lead teacher, said "I will bring you some!" She raises chickens. These eggs are beautiful. You can tell she takes good care of her chickens. The shells are hard, the yolks are such a bright orangish yellow. I am reminded of how the eggs I used to buy were. Now you cannot get eggs this nice in the stores. For our evening meal I fried up some bell peppers and onions, with ham. Beat eggs and cream and poured in the skillet and topped it all with shredded cheddar cheese. It was a lovely meal.

A friend of mine used to give me her chicken eggs and you are so right about how hard the shells are and how yellow the yolk. Even the brown ones from stores are nothing to compare.

I was brought up on Bante eggs. Brown in color and sure have a different taste compared to the blah usual eggs we get nowadays.

I remember farm-fresh eggs... My grandmother raised chickens, and later an uncle and aunt did. Then in my 50s I could sometimes get them from someone in a group I was in... But time marches on and I'm stuck with store-bought...

You fondly make me remember the eggs we used to buy in the Central Market in Latvia, These eggs came with some chicken poop attached on some shells so I knew they were real fresh,

Fresh eggs always have a certain "quality" to them, although it's been ages since I have had any. I am in the same boat. Not buying eggs for now. WAY overpriced. The cheapest I have seen them recently was in the two pack of 18 each at Walmart for $4.20 which puts them at $1.40 per dozen. Still too much and so I left them on the shelf.

When Covid lockdown came, a local (well, about 10 miles away) free-range egg farm lost all its custom because it used to supply hotels, colleges and restaurants and they all closed! Of course the hens were still laying eggs, and needing to be fed etc. So they quickly switched to offering home delivery and we signed up. It seemed like a good way to help a local business. When life got back to normal they decided to keep on with the home deliveries and so did we. We eat a lot of eggs, and our three middle-aged chickens certainly can't keep up. We get 30 eggs every two weeks. Good value and tasty too!
