Astraphobia is the fear of thunder and lightning. You can not stay away from thunder and lightning when it starts. Even hearing thunder and lightning cause you to have shortness of breath. You might even have chest pains and even shake all over.

When I was a kid, I was afraid of thunder and lightning. During bad weather, I often heard them and I hid my head under a pillow. Now I'm adult.I am no longer afraid of them but I never go out when there's a thunder and lightning.

Lightning could kill you if it strikes you. So it is good not to go out into thunder and lightning.

Did you know that if you can hear the thunder, regardless of how far away it sounds, you can be struck by lightning? Scary stuff. Have a good day.

I think alotof people ( and pets) have a fear of thunder and lightning but it may not rise to the level of a phobia.

I think my grandmother might have had this. She would run around and cover up all the mirrors when there was a storm with thunder and lightning. She would get very, very scared.

When I was a kid, I was really scared of thunder and lightning. Not now. But I still feel uneasy when the thunder and lightning are very strong.

@jstory07 We all know what we have to do in case of serious thunderstorms to avoid to be hit by lightning.

I don't have these problems when there's thunder and lightening but I fear that electrical appliances may get damaged.

I'm glad I don't fear thunder and lightning. I always prefer to say in the house when there is a storm.

I love a good, loud thunderstorm--as long as I am safely inside! They come, they wash off our little patch of earth, water our trees and yards and gardens, and move on. I'm not fond of tornadoes! But a good quick thunderstorm is enjoyable to me.

@jstory07 It doesn't really scare me unless it's really close. I sort of enjoy seeing it in the distance on a dark night, just not near me!

Do not shower during a storm as the electricity from lightning can travel through the plumbing.

I don't have a fear of it. I love storms. However, no matter how much I love them and want to watch the light show, I'm asleep in minutes.
