Doctor Jeff on Duty

Am I a doctor? No, but I play one on TV! I always used to get a laugh when I would say that to people. Or, does anyone remember that old TV commercial:
Them: "Help, we need a doctor!"
Guy: "I can help."
Them: "Are you a doctor?"
Guy: "No, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night."
Funny stuff! But I digress.
This is not how I wanted to spend my Saturday, but sometimes duty calls. Today I am playing doctor to a home full of sick women (my daughter and my girlfriend). I've already been to the store twice this morning, once to get medicine, and then later back again to get Gatorade and soup. I should have just made a list of everything needed and just made one trip. But that's okay, I do it all out of love.
I feel bad when anyone gets sick, and I always just want to make things better and take away their misery (without me actually getting sick in place of them). But I am not God, so the best I can do to help them get better quickly is to give them all the TLC they need.
Both are sleeping now, and it gives me a little time to be on myLot. But I probably won't be here much today once the two of them get up. Again, duty calls.
How is your day so far? And when you're feeling under the weather, do you like to be coddled and attended to, or do you just want to craw under a rock and hide in isolation until you feel better?

@porwest I'm doing my best, and so far I'm still healthy as a horse. I was a little worried when we did our impromptu trip to Disney on Friday, as it seemed like everyone there was sick or coughing or sneezing, but so far I'm still feeling great. I'm eating tons of oranges and bananas to boost my immune system.

I better not get sick! I have a big camping trip with my son coming up in a few days, and then a big national paintball tournament out in Vegas after that. I don’t have time to get sick!

I'm not opposed to receiving some assistance when I'm sick, and like you I would (and do) appreciate when a family member makes a hot bowl of soup, or runs to the store and buys medicine, but for the most part I just like to isolate myself and stay out of sight until I'm better. Part of it is I get cranky when I'm sick, and part of it is that I don't want to spread my germs to everyone else in the family.

@paigea Also, I’m just such a fun and outgoing person by nature, so when I’m sick I feel bad that I can’t be my normal good-natured self. So I tend to isolate myself because I don’t want people to see me miserable.

They both are on the mend, and were only sick for about 3 days. So not too bad, all things considered. Except that during those three days they did have pretty severe flu-like symptoms.

They’re both on the mend, but werereally sick for about theee solid days. Now that they’re getting better, I got to keep my hopes up that I don’t get sick now.

I'm all for being spoiled and I must say that Dale did an absolutely fantastic job while I was dealing with cancer.
Your sweethearts are blessed to have you. Do you know if it's covid, RSV, flu, a cold or any of the many other bugs out there?

They both tested negative for Covid, but didn’t get tested for anything else. Given that they’re already getting better, I think both of them just had a nasty cold virus, although it kinda seemed like the flu for a few days at least.

I do not often get coddled when under the weather. I am more likely to be the coddler. Hope all are well at your house soon.

I deft do not like being coddled when I am sick. I don’t mind waiting hand and foot on others who are sick, but I try to keep my distance as much as possible to prevent me from getting sick as well.

I remember those Holiday Inn commercials so well; they were a hoot! When I’m sick, I appreciate someone bringing to my house a can or two of soup, and some orange juice, but after that, let me be alone to suffer. I have no desire to bring down anyone else with how bad I feel. Although, I’ll wait on a loved one hand and foot if they aren’t feeling well. I want to get them as close to better as I possibly can. I have a feeling you are a good doctor!

As much as I love TLC when I’m well, I’m not a fan of it when I’m sick. I hate being bothered or coddled when I’m not feeling well. I’m a happy guy by nature, so when I’m sick I don’t want to spread my misery to others.

I hope they both feel better soon. As far as being coddled, it depends how sick I am. If it's a mild cold, I'll take some coddling...if it's the pandemic of 1968 I was so sick I wanted to die and just wanted to be left alone. Have a good weekend.

I usually don’t get sick very often, but when I do I crash and burn hard, probably like you felt in 1968. And when I feel that bad, hell hath no mercy on any poor soul who tries to make me feel better.

I am the same way. When I get sick, I like to be alone. I don't like to be around other people until I feel better.
