A fun evening at our clubhouse

Because of the risk of covid, and against my better judgement, we went up to the clubhouse last night. Every Friday, those who want to gather there for nibbles and drinks. Some organise fish and chips or pizzas to have as their dinner. There was a nice group there and towards the end of the evening, they brought out Jenga. This game has other names depending on the manufacturer and comes in different sizes. Our own set fits in a tin. As you can see in the photo, this set was made of quite large blocks. Often, it’s played with two people but last night groups of four took it in turns to remove a block and place it on the top of the tower. Whoever places the last block that causes the tower to topple over loses. It’s a lot of fun. As you can see, I could barely reach to place the last block in place. I’ll add a photo of it falling down in the first of the responses.

@judyev Fun in the company of friends is a good kind of fun, especially since it doesn’t cost much.

It was a good night. The games helped everyone mix and chat rather than just all sitting round a table and only talking to those next to you. I said I'd add the other photo and nearly forgot.

@LadyDuck Once it went, we were all dancing out of the way of the blocks.

That looks similar to a weird game Spock played on Star Trek ..... I'd lose for sure if I tried it.

It (Star Trek) is seen as classic among Americans. I was never a "Trekkie," but I can remember and cite lines from certain episodes.

@TheHorse Every one but me seems to know bits and pieces from it.

I don't think I've seen Star Trek or if I did it was in the dim, dark ages.

I love life size Jenga and life size Connect Four. It’s so much more fun because it gets people really involved. Your picture looks like a lot of fun.

I love playing that game. I've "lost" a few times. I remember there was a game I played where I could no longer reach the top of the stack.

We nearly needed a stool for this one but it fell down just after this photo was taken.

This is an interesting and entertaining game. I am so short that I would have not reached the top.

@JudyEv I would have needed a small footstool to place those blocks in the photo.

With the small one I have, there is no problem with it getting too high. These size blocks are good for a group gathering. Everyone can see what's happening.

My Mum loved it even at 100. We'd find a loose one and push it a little way out then she'd very carefully take it the rest of the way.

@RebeccasFarm Thanks. I've started doing 10 minutes a day exercise following some guy on YouTube. I know my legs are getting weaker.

I may have to add this to my list of things to do with "stacky blocks." Jenga is so much fun. Like you, I have mostly payed the "little version."

Never seen a giant Jenga set before. Must be as much danger of falling in to it as it toppling over!

It got pretty dodgy at the finish. We were all ready to get our toes out of the way once it toppled.

@Ronrybs Several times towards the end I was thinking I wouldn't have to worry about another turn but then they'd all succeed and I was faced with all these blocks again.

I’ve seen Jenga games that are very large like this but have never played them. My older kids and I had the smaller traditional size that fits in a tin.

It's a relatively simple game. Egos can't get in the way too much - not like some games.

You have to pull out a rod and place it up the top. It's easy for a start but then gets harder and harder.
