Fruit Trees

United States

I remember, when I was a kid in our neighborhood there seemed to be all kinds of fruit trees, such a peach, apricot and plum trees. We even had an avocado tree in our back yard. But I don't seem to see them much now. Of course I live in the backwoods. But I'm thinking of neighborhoods in cities. Before we moved I didn't see any. Do you have fruit trees in your neighborhood? As a kid they sure could be a Godsend.

I rarely see them in back yards. I think a couple in the village might have a lemon tree but that's about it.

My parents had a apple tree in their back yard. I got all the apples that I wanted from that tree.

Growing up, my parents and grandparents had yards full of fruit trees. We had navel orange, lemon, lime, coconut, mango and avocado trees growing in our yards. Not to mention numerous vegetables as well. I grew up in south Florida, and it was common for people to have citrus trees in their yards. I live in north Florida now, and don't see it as often, but I'm sure there are still a lot of people who grow their own fruits and vegetables.

@popciclecold When I was little, I use to shimmy up the coconut trees in my grandmother’s yard and knock the coconuts down. Then I would sit there on the sidewalk in front of her house and break open the coconuts. I would drink the milk (coconut water) first, and then carve off pieces of coconut from the inside of the shell. I would spend hours doing that, and never get sick of eating coconut.

When I was growing up our neighbor had an apple tree and we would pick the apples and eat them. No fruit trees where I live now.

Yes, I had them, but people cut all those trees. They don't like any trees.

There are some old apple trees next to the main road near us. Every year the apples fall off and nobody seems to pick them up. I think this is because they are growing near a busy road and people are thinking about the fumes from the traffic getting into the apples while they are growing.

I have two aged apple trees in my back plus a couple of walnut trees. The walnut tree in my side yard is trying to get into my bedroom.
