March 1st is Considered a Spring Day

I am eager for the month of March to arrive. Every year, March 1st has been a milestone for me, to consider the end of winter. When in reality, this isn't true! As a teenager, March 1st was the day when my winter clothes(minus cardigan sweaters and sweatshirts)got pushed into storage. And my cotton dresses and spring clothing, they were all neatly hung in the front of my closet. While the wool skirts and heavy sweaters, were gladly pushed into the back. I didn't have a wide selection of clothing, but what I did own was clean and pressed. Not to mention, I did the best I could to stay updated on the latest styles and fashions. At times, I'd even make an appointment to get my hair trimmed. Why during the month of March? I guess this was just a part of my spring preparations. And instead of heavy boots, I'd also get out my sneakers and flatty shoes. Did all these things change the Michigan weather in any way? Nope, we often get mounds of snow, even on into the month of April! This year, spring has been predicted to come 6 weeks early, according to that famous "Groundhog!" Photo: Borrowed from Pixabay

@Tina30219 It seemed good to hear the groundhog didn't see his shadow! That is very unusual:)

Most of my spring cleaning, starts inside my closet. The clothing that I never wear, goes into a GoodWill bag.

We enjoyed Spring a couple of weeks ago. Now I need to put some hip waders on if I intend to wander our property. We're on flood watch.

Even though that March is close by, it is still a little bit cold and cloudy outside right now with temperatures at 57 degrees Fahrenheit.

You sound so organized, even as a young person. If March 1 makes you feel like spring, enjoy it. I know I am ready for lighter clothes and brighter colors.

At times, March gets up in the 50s-60s, April can be beautiful! But, a blizzard can change this, in two minutes

Spring cleaning your wardrobe and getting excited for warmer weather - sounds like a fun tradition, even if Michigan weather doesn't always cooperate! Here's to hoping for an early spring this year!

The Groundhog usually sees his shadow, giving us 6 more weeks of winter. This year, it didn't happen:) Early spring? Yup, I'll gladly take it!

For some reason, the National Weather Service lists the first day of March as the “first day of meteorological spring.” To me, that throws “statistics” off because the “first day of meteorological” seasons come three weeks before the actual date, meaning that the weather is “not like it’s supposed to be like” for the next season. (For instance, it’s sn*wing in many places right now, and that goes in the “record books” as a “spring” snow. ) Leave it to the government to mess everything up!

It is also my birthday. It seems March started off just great and then as it progressed I lost my mom in March and another year my mother-in-law so it somehow all ended not so well, I am looking forward to spring,

I tend to put away my winter clothes now as summer gets closer. Once, I never used to bother. I'm not sure why not.
