I'm Enjoying the Feral Cats

Since we moved here, I've enjoyed helping to feed some feral cats. I'd say we have about six or eight of them, scrounging each day for food. The beautiful part about it, these cats look very well groomed and healthy! I tried to pet one, but it quickly ran away. They are very much wild and don't have a permanent home anywhere. Now that I don't have any pets, this gives me some animals to help care for. The one cat that's two toned black and white, sometimes perches on our side porch. I wonder if its owner once lived in this home. Anyway, I like helping to care for these lovely animals! Other neighbors are doing the same thing, which is nice:) Photo: Not Mine, It's borrowed from Pixabay

It is kind of you to feed them. Try to take a look at the tips of their ears. If it looks like the tip of one of them has been cut off that means that they have been spayed/neutered. If not you should contact a local TNR (trap/neuter/release) group to try to get them sterilized. That way you won't be dealing with like 50 cats next year.

I'm sure glad you forewarned me:( I wasn't thinking about kittens and we certainly don't need more to feed! The neighbor man buys dry cat food, we just share a few table scraps of meat /veggies. One day, I gave it a can of sardines LOL

We have several wild ones around here. As long as they don't bother the kittens when we have those they are welcome.

@kobesbuddy Pretty cat was a year old wild one when I trapped her. She was one my Mom claimed but the mother cat hid the kittens until they were ready to eat. Mom was happy just watching her. But I wanted to make sure she was safe. She has been a loving housecat once she decided I didn't want to eat her

My sister likes to feed some homeless cats that come to the front door to eat and drink meals that we leave for them since my relatives and myself have around six cats at home.

Friend feeds some feral cats, but they have been spayed an neutered. He has a few regulars,,,and a few who just come for the free eats, and live elsewhere.

When cats are born wild, they usually stay this way. Experiencing human kindness and love, they prefer this over anything else.

That's lovely that the feral cats in your area are being cared for. It's a shame the previous owners just abandoned the black and white one.

Funny you wrote a post about this. I looked out our back door window and saw 2 kitties I never have seen before resting on our back porch. One was black the other was orange stripped. They didn't run off at first when they spotted me but eventually moved along. I really wanted to go out and love on them but didn't. I think if I continue to see them hanging around, I will put some food out for them. They seemed fairly healthy, weight wise so it seems they either belong to someone or they are taken care of somewhere else.

I agree with @NJChicaa. See if these cats are neutered. Otherwise your neighborhood will be overrun with feral cats. Have a good day.

I love cats and I also leave a bowl of dry food outside our door, just in case a feral cat comes around during the night.
