Nikki Haley's Out

Just as I mostly expected, Nikki Haley only won one state in the Super Tuesday nomination challenge and will make her concession speech at 10am. She only won Vermont and her campaign is officially over. As I said more than once, I admired her tenacity to continue to run her long shot campaign, but the writing was on the wall long before yesterday's big day for caucuses and primaries, and I was beginning to feel like she was making a bit of a fool of herself possibly hurting some of her chances in 2028. I was curious how she would handle the concession considering her rather nasty attacks against Trump. She would not, under any circumstance, endorse Joe Biden, but would she endorse Donald Trump? I felt that if she did, that would make her a very difficult candidate to take seriously if she ran in 2028 considering she was the most critical of Trump throughout the campaign. According to sources, instead of endorsing Trump, she will simply encourage Trump to do what he can to earn the support of her followers into the general.

Haley's concession smacks of being disingenuous. She was backed by big-business donors who feared another Trump presidency. She was never supported by the mainstream of the Republican Party, but by the old Bush factions and RHINO's, who won't accept that the ideology of the party has changed (for the better). I never looked upon her as a solid candidate in the primary race anyway. I actually think she damaged her credibility as a future candidate by saying she would support whoever is the nominee, but then decided not to fully endorse Trump.

There is a lot to be said about her future chances, and you are exactly spot on here. Not only did she rail against Trump, she railed against other Republicans and even trashed the party. That's not the way to garner support from a party you wish to carry the baton for. The ONLY thing that may help her in 2028 if she decides to run again, which she just might, are short attention spans. THAT being said, Republicans also happen to be LESS prone to forget things.

@porwest I'm sure she will find her way onto some cushy board of directors' job like Paul Ryan while she decides on her political future.

From what I heard yesterday it seemed like she'd still be running so long as she kept getting donations. Guess that is not the case.

@porwest she surely stayed on longer than she should have.

She lost the bulk of her donations a couple of weeks ago but still decided to hold out. I figured either way Super Tuesday would be it for her. It's just mathematically impossible for her to get the needed delegates to win the nomination without winning the majority of Super Tuesday contests.

I watched her speech and she never actually said she wouldn't endorse Trump. But Trump really needs to pick her as his VP. First of all to get her supporters, but mostly because she has a real platform with so many Americans and Trump needs that balance.

I don't think he would be an awful pick as V.P., but I am still holding out for some "other options." It will be interesting to see who he decides on though.

I saw her bow out this morning on tv. I really didn't think she'd endorse Trump

I read about this in the news. Do you think Trump will be the next President?
