Another little detour on this road to a cruise

I had a follow-up appointment yesterday that I almost canceled. But thank God for His mercy, I didn't. When the nurse checked my blood pressure, it was 176/106! It's been kind of creeping up, but usually runs normal. The doctor sent me down the hall to my primary care doc who called in a BP med for me right then. I took one pill that afternoon and one this morning. When I checked it, it was much lower...140 something over 90. Since people don't generally have any symptoms of high BP, if I hadn't kept that appointment I would have had no idea it was so high. Then being out in the middle of the ocean on a ship would have been a terrible place to have a stroke or heart attack! Not that there's a good place, but I don't think all cruise ships are equipped for major medical emergencies. I am so thankful God made sure I didn't cancel that appointment. He's always working on our behalf, but I know life and its heartaches happen to all of us. Do any of you have high pressure?

Mine has been occasionally high, but usually is around 120/78 I have not checked it lately. Bob's kidney doctor wants his monitored daily. He sent a monitor that sends readings by wifi to a monitoring agency. Of course all the stress you have been under trying to get healthy and plan for the cruise likely has made your pressure higher as well. I sure hope you get to go.

Thanks, Heather. I'll take those pills as long as I need to, but hopefully not forever.

I’ve had “white coat syndrome” high blood pressure (things spiked because you’re in the hospital or doctor’s office). It hasn’t been problematic since I lost weight. Glad you’re getting treatment for “the silent killer” promptly!!

You have certainly been under enough stress to raise blood pressure, that’s for sure. The only time my blood pressure is high is when I have a migraine.

@AmbiePam I know you'll be relieved to have him back home. Was he able to preach without so awfully much pain? That's a long drive home, too.

I can certainly understand that! Is your dad at the revival now? I'm praying for him.

Mine can get high but not like that. I am on a BP med. Fortunately, it has been low normal as of late. Were you aware of being stressed?

Yeah, Dale and I talked and I realized how very stressed I've been. Hopefully I can chill on the cruise.

Glad that got caught. Mine was on the low side last time it was checked.

It's better to be on the low side, unless it drops too low.

I'm so glad the problem was averted. My blood pressure is normal; but my husband's alternates between too low and too high. Have a wonderful day.

I know this has been so hard for both of you. Thankful you haven't had to deal with BP problems and hopefully the docs can get your husband's regulated. How was he doing last night?

@1creekgirl The swelling is down in his arm probably due to the antibiotics. They say his blood pressure is stable. He might be transferred to rehab today. We shall see.

I was on a low dose for a few years, but my BP never got very high anyway. Then 2 years ago my Oncologist took me off those pills because of the cancer treatments. Now lately it's been creeping up, but never at such a dangerous level. So, I'll probably be on the med from now on. Praise God for meds that help!

What a blessing that you attended that appointment and that you were able to get a prescription for the high b/p. I take b/p pills, for high b/p but they are low intensity.

Do your meds keep it lowered? I think this med for me is low dose. It was lower this morning and we'll check it tonight.

I am glad it was caught before your departure for the cruise. I never had high blood pressure, it's more low than I. I have the small machine at home and I check mine and the BP of my husband a couple of times a week.

@1creekgirl - It is not expensive, I bought three years ago when my husband often had vertigo. The doctor told me to check his BP as often it was caused by too low BP.

The Lord is always looking out for everyone plus your Guardian Angels up above, I have always had very low blood pressure and I don't think that has changed but then who knows, I do not go to the men with the white coats, As far as I know I am healthy and take no medications and thank the Lord for this every day,

That truly is a blessing from God. Since you don't often go to doctors, maybe you could get a home BP checker, just to make sure your BP is okay.

Glad that they caught that for you before your trip. No, we don't have high blood pressure, mine tends to run more on the lower side at times. I am not bothered by it.

Does your med keep it under control? I think that's the BP med I was on a couple of years ago. I suspected I didn't really need to be on it and my Oncologist took me off during the cancer thing. But it's never been this high before.

@1creekgirl Yes. I actually asked the doctor if I could get off it, but he told me the reason my BP is good is because the meds are working. lol. I guess it makes sense.

No. George typically runs low. Mine is typically normal, or just a tad high. But, that's typically a result of pain, anxiety, and that sprint across the parking lot to get up that narrow ramp to an even more narrow sidewalk that barely fits people much less a wheelchair.

Since most people are not aware if their BP is high, I guess that why it's called a silent killer.
