Do you have a favorite kind of sacred music?

My friend Paula is Christian and likes to listen to hard-core Praise music. I find that kind of music grating, but I respect everyone's right to listen to what they want to and show reverence for God (or not) in whatever way suits them. On Sunday mornings, I tune into the local classical music radio station. They play cantatas by Bach, Handel and others. I really enjoy them. I also like some bluegrass and "old time" gospel tunes, including Hank Williams's "House of Gold" and Front Range's "One Beautiful Day." I actually perform the former now and again. Do you ever listen to sacred music? Do you have a favorite kind? I'll link Hank's "House of Gold" as performed by one my favorite bluegrass bands, The Seldom Scene.

I love various church hymns in both English and Latvian, I also like gospel music, I love how Elvis sang How Great Thou Art and that version tears me up whenever I listen to it,

@wolfgirl569 Yeppers. It's one of my "wipe away a tear" songs. A fella needs those now and again.

My favorites are still Baroque composers like Bach and Handel. I only recently got turned on to Palestrina. I am going to check out more of his stuff.

If I'm behing honest, no. I had a few favorite hems I'd sing along to in curch, but that's about it. I typical like more upbeat music, and avoid anything religious. The exception being my sister's high school Jazz band.

Verdi's Requiem is quite dramatic in parts! I know I'm a nerd, but it is a good test for stereos.

That's a great name for a group. I'm not sure what 'hard core' praise songs are but we listen to a lot of classical sacred music, some older hymns, gospel tunes, etc.

That's the stuff I like. I really relate to House of Gold because it's kind of non-denominational.

I can't praise something I don't believe in so that type of music wouldn't do much for me. I like the classical better. I was sure happy to have found the flute music with rain in the background the other day when I was waiting for the inspection ladies to come. I like a lot of different music, religion isn't one of them. There is only one religious tune I like and that is "The Old Rugged Cross". That has always been one that I like.

Some of the classical music I like might be labeled as sacred. I love Bach. The Ave Maria from Schubert is clearly sacred.

I love southern gospel. It’s what I was raised on, with Gospel Singing Jubilee coming on TV every Sunday morning at 9 AM. I also love bluegrass gospel, especially the a cappella style. Here’s Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver doing a favorite.

Heh. In Chicago, I'd watch/listen to Jubilee Showcase every Sunday morning (before football). It featured (I think) the best black gospel choirs from Chicago. That and the blues still influence my singing.

Finally got to listen. Loved it. Then this one came up. Beautiful. I have decent voice, but I wish I could sing like that. I don't do Jesse Winchester songs because I can't sing like him. Heh. John Prine suits me

Gregorian Chant; The Knights Templar on youtube. Have to be in the mood. Some of the modern Christian music sounds like folks are singing to their lover, not Jesus. Nuns singing the Gregorian Chants can be lovely.

I'm glad you like House of Gold. That kind of music grates on me and I love praise music. Contemporary praise and worship. I listen to it often on Alexa.

No, I don't listen to sacred music. The closest I come to that is listening to Amy Grant. I'm a 60s and 70s kinda gal. Have a good week.
