Every day I have a quick look at the news, because I kind of feel I ought to know what’s going on in the world even if it is really depressing. But for once I found a little story that really did make me smile. A woman in Cheshire found what she thought was a lost and cold baby hedgehog on the pavement (sidewalk). She carefully picked it up, took it home, made it comfortable in a warm box with some newspaper and gave it a dish of food. Then the next morning she rushed it to the local wildlife hospital as soon as it was open. When she arrived the concerned vet(erinarian) quickly opened the box, worried that a baby hedgehog should be about so early in the year. But she soon found that she had nothing to worry about, the woman had been carefully tending a fluffy bobble that had fallen off someone’s woolly hat! The poor woman was horribly embarrassed and left in a hurry. But hopefully she was comforted to know that if it had been a real hedgehog, she had done exactly the right thing! Good news really - no sick baby hedgehogs and she demonstrated the right thing to do if you do find one!

@Fleura I am glad she did the right thing. I thought when they opened the box that it was not a hedgehog but a porcupine. I am glad I was wrong.

I read about that! My concern is that there is somebody unknowingly wandering around wearing a hat with a baby hedgehog for a bobble.

@Fleura I feel kind of sad for her too, because she did something really kind and ended up being embarassed. I havent seen a real hedgehog either to be honest!

Maybe. Or maybe she had never seen an actual hedgehog. It is funny, but I do feel sorry for the poor woman, so embarrassing!

Oh my goodness, I think she needs to have a better look next time. There was a small hedgehog INSIDE the dry food bowl of my cat yesterday evening. Those animals are so cute.
