Drama at the local grocery store today

I had to get out and get gas and do 2 other errands today. Last was the local grocery, not far from my house. I only needed 2 items, so planned on a quick in and out trip. I was in line to pay, and the man in front of me fell to the floor. The cashier went into hysterics, he was still breathing fine, but appeared to have fainted. Of course, an ambulance was called and came promptly, he had come out of his faint or whatever it was by the time they arrived a few minutes later. He appeared OK, but they took him out to the ambulance to further check him out. He cracked a joke that had us all in stitches when they were rolling him out the door--''There's nothing wrong with me, I was just having sticker shock over the prices!'' This is the second time in a year someone has had an incident at a store I was in at the time. He did seem fine, he was maybe 45-50ish? But I had to give him credit for a good joke for the incident! Never a dull moment anymore, it seems!

@MarieCoyle That's a good man indeed, priceless, hard to come by, need more people like that. Shows more in 2 minutes than most in their whole life.

His remark about the prices was so funny at the time. He was determined to make everyone smile before he left the building!

@crossbones27 We need more positivity in our lives, more smiles, and definitely more laughter!! Life is just too short to not laugh sometimes!

Not much good the cashier going into hysterics. Hopefully she might learn what to do if such a thing happens again. I'm glad the guy seemed to be okay. Hopefully it was something minor.

It doesn’t help to get all hysterical over medical issues. That’s when people need to be calm and keep their wits!

I love it when people try so hard to make a situation more positive. It takes some thinking but some people can do that.

Everyone was laughing. I did hear one of the paramedics say something about he seemed to be dehydrated somewhat, so that would be easily fixed. No one panicked except the cashier, who went into hysterics. That never helps at all. The manager came and took her somewhere to sit down for awhile.

Amber, he was attending college in Savannah Georgia at the time. This happened on a busy intersection he went through often. After that, he found an alternate route!!

@snowy22315 When my oldest son was in college, he saw a young man shot and killed. The shot was fired from a car parked at the side of the street he was driving on, the man fell down and I guess it was a mess. He called me and said, Mom, I was going to come home tomorrow for break, but I am leaving tonight. I didn't want him to drive all shook up, but of course he did and he was fine. It really did shake him up.

@MarieCoyle That would shake you up. Not only to see it, but to think how close you came to being in the line of fire.

I heard that he is a basketball coach for one of the high schools here. But that is all I know about him. The way he was smiling and joking, he is hopefully OK.

Sticker shock - HA - I think we're all going through that! Thank goodness he was ok though, whatever made him really faint. Sounds like he had a great sense of humor (though maybe the cashier may not have thought so ).

@much2say Nothing that used to be a pound is a pound now. It’s 14 ounces, or so. They are hoping that we won’t notice. Shrinkflation at it’s finest!

Rasma, it does seem that many people are not very good at handling any situations at all other than the most basic things. I always thought April Fools Day was strange. Some people get extremely weird and then the jokes are often rather mean, or really can hurt someone. I would much rather have good humor instead.

What a way for him to bounce back after a scary ordeal, with a joke about food prices! I must admit, I often feel faint after seeing my total cost for groceries. I hope he ended up being okay.

One lady that works at the service desk is the daughter of a neighbor. So, I can ask her at some point, she will probably know the outcome. I can relate to the sticker shock!! I get more and more creative with meals than ever before!

@moffittjc I have also discovered that there are way more people who do not have enough to eat than I ever knew of. Many senior citizens. One local fellow who visits my neighbor, Dale, said most months it's a toss up, buy enough food or not, due to higher utilities as well as cost of medications. How terrible is it that anyone should have to make that choice at 80 years old.

I hope I would be calm and find a way to be helpful. I knew what to do when a student suddenly had a seizure in a class where I was substitute teaching. I lost my patience with the students who were running around shrieking. I understand they were surprised and frightened and needed me to be calm with them as well.
@MarieCoyle (28810)

People who are seizing do not need to be in a crazy wild environment. You did the right thing.
