Unrequited love..not really ...but something like it

I feed stray dogs. Mostly on Thursdays.
Some biscuits.
I am careful not to touch them. I am scared of diseases..
But I do have intense desire to pet them, which I control.
After I feed them, I find them walking behind me...that actually scares me...
What are they up to....
I convey my fear...the human tone...that they understand...and they turn away...
And then I feel sorry for them, because they understood my need to pet them.

I agree, I'm sure they feel you want to pet them. Wearing gloves isn't the same but maybe you could give it a try. Thanks for feeding the strays anyway.

@sallypup I can only be feeding them one time per week. That too, I don't want anybody to know I am doing it. Kinda, folks here are ...you are encouraging them. If you don't, they will move away. Right...they will. If they get too hungry, they will attack little babies. Then you will say, oh...feral dogs are so bad. In any area, there must be at least 20 dog lovers. If we can get together and ensure we can feed them, we will not have to worry about babies being attacked. How much does it cost? Across 20 or even 15 members? Just about 10 dollars per month per person. I think we can afford it... these dogs are neutered, so there are no puppies around. They will all disappear in about 10 to 15 years. What annoys me is people fancy dogs, and buy them. Then, when the dog is old or injured, they go and leave it elsewhere. That is annoying. Seriously annoying. I definitely hold pet shops responsible for it.

@vandana7 Great to see you here still Vanny! I hope you've been well!
That is so sweet of you though that you feed them. Very very sweet.

Hello Dani. How are you doing? I like dogs. I am not sure I can do much for them so it is an outlet in a way. Nothing sweet. I wish I could do more, though. I mean, there is the fear that others may spot me feeding them, and someday they will complain against me. Because you are feeding them, they are staying here, and biting our kids. That type of accusation. There is a night watchman. I see him playing and feeding dogs in the mornings, while returning. I envy him. These feral dogs just love him.

@VivaLaDani13 Why what happened? Are you ill? You should be here. The mind gets diverted and people are here to listen and advice.

@vandana7 Hey Vanny. I've honestly not been the best. I haven't been well since November. Most of the reason for my absence here. How about yourself?
It sounds like a tough one. Personally, I want to thank you for doing it even though you are scared of them and doing something many wouldn't approve. Those dogs would be so grateful for you.

Yes, they need to be petted. But I am scared. If they lick me. After all, they too would feel happy to be cared for. And their way of expressing is to shake their tails, and lick...right? That scares me because saliva has those microbes. That said, feral dogs are not as bad as they are portrayed. One of them often walks me to the store, and back, sometimes when I am shopping late in the night. He even sits in front of the shop waiting for me to complete shopping. I have never touched him but I recognize him, and accept his protectiveness gracefully.

Its ages since I saw a dog pup on the road. This means all these dogs are just around for about 10 years or so. They are all neutered, so no more stray pups or stray dogs. Other than those that are left by owners who do not want them anymore. Three of the dogs seem to be like that...they are scared frustrated hungry thirsty ...and suddenly unwanted. I feel for them.

They sound friendly. Rabies would be the biggest worry I would have with strays

Stray dogs are different Valerie. They often have to fight among themselves for food. This means their diseases get transferred. Of the six I fed yesterday, one had its eye and ear bitten quite badly. I have been trying to feed that one now and then. There are two dominating dogs, a third too tends to be sneaky. Two of the group are rather meek. Of these meek, one has those injuries, and the other I suspect is quite old. Eating contaminated food from dustbin does not do them much good, right? But for now, I cannot think of a solution.

I know how you feel that you and I would love to pet dogs even though in my case I fear being bit by a dog.

All that dogs truly want is for someone to love them, pet them, play with them and feed them. I feel sorry for these stray dogs. Have a good weekend.
