I am cheating a bit in my grandma´s recipe.

When I was a little child, we didn´t even have a blender. And in summer days, my grandma mashed bananas with a fork, added little by little milk so that it wouldn´t still, added sugar and served it. Of course everything was at room temperature. We did not have a fridge either. This carrot-orange jam is not as easy as it was when I saw her making it. I did peel the oranges and cut the peel thinly. And I took out the meat of one orange as my grandma did. But I´ll squeeze the rest with my machine. And to begin with, these new oranges don´t have pits They must be plastic, like the tomatoes we puy at the supermarket. The oranges are very expensive as I just learned. They are imported. Navel from Sunskit. But I also have Chilean oranges, not as beautiful, and I will add some of that real orange juice to my jam. I´ll turn the heat off from the carrots and go for a nap. See you.

I will finish cooking it tomorrow. But I tried it today and it is delicious. As it is, I could use it like a thick syrup. But I want to simmer it for a longer time to turn it into a jam.

We get Navel oranges from Spain, they have seeds and are very good. I miss the big oranges we got from Sicily... what are they doing with their beautiful oranges?

I hope that the jam turns out well. My grandmother was a wonderful cook. And I often wonder how they could manage with no gadgets in the kitchen to make their work easy and fast. And still she never complained. All the cooking were from scratch, simple to look with local ingredients and traditional cooking, but they tasted heaven.
