A little bit of Do-It-Yourself today

We went to a nearby suburb on Saturday and participated in a lamb-tasting afternoon. We had to rate seven small pieces of lamb for tenderness, juiciness and flavour. Sixty people in three groups of twenty participated and, for our efforts, our niece’s woodwind band collected $1,000. Afterwards, we drove a short distance to my BIL’s house. Vince’s sister was also at the lamb-tasting and cooked us fresh scones at the BIL’s which we enjoyed with coffee. We stayed the night and today Vince did some sanding of a piece of timber. It will now be oiled and have three railway ‘dogs’ put in it. Once up on the wall, it will make a nice hangar for coats, hats and/or umbrellas. You might be able to see from the photo that is was very dusty work. The bag on the sander also leaks sawdust which didn't help.

I am very glad to know that your niece’s woodwind band collected $1,000. I can see that it was a very dusty work. This is why I hate sanding, I get dust even in my ears.

@vandana7 Yes, I used to sand the wooden benches we have in the garden. Then I washed, waited until they are dry and paint with a protective oil.

His arms were covered in brown dust. He has brushed off most of it in the photo.

@judyev Lamb-tasting I could handle (so long as it’s what it sounds like); sanding not so much.

I think it is probably what it sounds like. I described it in more detail when we did it at the village some times back.

We always enjoy doing this sort of work. Of course, I kept out of the dust. While the 'boys' were busy with this, I deheaded all my BIL's roses.

That is a real surprise for me. Living on a farm, we grew up on lamb. It's very popular and common here although quite expensive nowadays.

Sounds like a fun day. I've never been to a lamb-tasting event. Lamb isn't big here. It's hard to find it in the stores. I'm glad you had a nice visit with your BIL and spent the night. Interesting picture. I'm glad you told me what he's holding.

@JudyEv I take it that it doesn't catch the dust very well.

@just4him The tool has had a lot of use and now there is a hole in the bag which we've tried to tape up.

It's called a belt sander but all the tape covering the holes in the bag that is supposed to catch the dust is coming off.

We have to oil the wood then treat the iron pegs with acid before painting them.

Dust collector bags always seem to leak at some point. I know mine did when I had a sander with one.

Glad you had a good day and enjoyed the lamb, Tell Vince that he reminds me of Crocodile Dundee in that photo and all he needs is the kind of hat the guy wore,

Is that really Vince under all of that dust? Sanding leaves a mess and is electric sanders are so noisy. But I am sure that the end result will be beautiful.
