About a week ago, my husband, Vince, quite suddenly lost almost all hearing in one ear. He cleaned out his ears then went to see a doctor. The only doctor we were able to see prescribed antibiotics and steroids in case there was an infection. We were able to see Vince’s normal doctor yesterday who referred him to an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist and today he starts treatment in a hyperbaric chamber. MyLotter @GardenGerty’s husband has been having this treatment for a different condition. At the risk of repeating Heather’s information, the patient is placed in a hyperbaric chamber and the pressure within the room is gradually increased as is the percentage of oxygen in the air. The treatment was once used solely for deep-sea divers who developed decompression sickness (the bends) but has since been found beneficial in several other areas including carbon monoxide poisoning, severe burns and sudden loss of hearing. I haven’t put up a photo of a kangaroo for ages but they are much more interesting than hyperbaric chambers.
