How often do you send anything registered mail?

Yesterday, I sent a letter registered mail, and I had never done that before. Don’t get me wrong, I have had some of my mail sent registered mail, but my dad was the one doing it. Every time I sent something to the government for my disability case, they’d say they never got it. It only had to happen a few times before my dad started taking my mail to the post office himself to send it that way. They’d still say they never got it, and when I pointed out it was sent registered mail and someone had signed for it, what do you know? Within a minute or two they’d suddenly “find” it. During my whole disability case and the years after I just did not leave my home often, so he volunteered to go. Sometimes they’d say even though the mail had been signed for they still didn’t know where it was, and I would point out that wasn’t on me. It would be maddening. I remember walking my paperwork to my case worker once, calling the office to confirm she had it, she said yes, then getting paperwork saying I hadn’t filled out the appropriate forms. Anyway, I had intended just to ask how often you sent registered mail. This time I sent a registered letter to a doctor. It might be the only time I ever send one not aimed at a government agency.

I have done it before, not often. I will sometimes send gifts that way just to make sure the recipient gets them. The government is so much fun in that way.

I've sent certified, but not registered, unless they're the same thing.

I think they may be the same thing. *I looked it up, and they basically are the same thing, but one just informs you of every step of the way. The other just provides proof it was sent and delivered/signed for.

@AmbiePam I needed the proof. I'm glad to know they're similar.

I think I have sent them once or twice ever. I hope you get the results you need.

That would be infuriating - them saying they hadn't received it then suddenly finding it.

It’s almost like they were told to do that, but I have to be wrong. They simply must not care enough to be thorough.

@AmbiePam It certainly sounds as though they don't care two hoots.

Very rarely nowadays, only if it is something really important and I don't want it to get lost.

I never do. Unless speiffically requested by the recipant. Just because a human supposedly has to sign for it, is no guarentee the letter will arrive and be read by the party to which it's intended. They recieve tens of thousands of leters daily, and no matter what you do there's no safety net.

It assures me they can’t penalize me. That’s why I do it. If I have proof they signed for it, it doesn’t go against me. That’s a big deal when it comes to the the government agencies I’ve had to deal with. Suddenly they are more willing to work with you when they realize the fault lies with them.

@AmbiePam Yeah, I know. I've been burned by them before. One year I lost my medical insurance because the woman assisting us wrote down our address wrong. So I never got the forms for George to fill out. Now, I can do it online or over the phone.

I cannot say as though I have ever had to resort to sending registered mail. Although when I go for my passport renewal, they now send the new passport through registered mail-my husband just went through that with his and I am getting mine done next month.

It's been a while since I've sent registered mail, but I used to do it all the time when I worked for the city.

Our mail service is broken, as we know. But I do know from my own experience that often we are told ''we never received that!'' and bingo, someone can find it in a heartbeat. Very discouraging, especially when you are dealing with our government.

I haven't sent a registered letter in a very long time and don't even remember who or why I sent one. Hope your doctor gets it and doesn't say he didn't.
