The photo has nothing to do with the discussion. I just like it.
I’ve mentioned in comments a few times that, although Australia doesn’t have the gun culture that America does, we do seem to be having more and more knife attacks.
I must have been right as our West Australian government is to introduce tough new laws, allowing officers to scan people in any public place, whether or not they’re suspected of having a weapon. Hand-held metal detectors would be used to detect hidden knives. Juveniles found with a bladed weapon will receive harsher penalties and risk referral to a juvenile justice team.
Of course, there are arguments against this, some saying it will lead to racial profiling, and targeting, whether consciously or not, of minority groups.
It’s pretty sad that it has come to this but so many knife attacks aren’t good either.

I'm reminded of that scene in Crocodile Dundee...

I think it still has to be passed in parliament but I'm guessing it will go through.

Yes, I have seen an increase of knife attacks across the world. Scanning anyone will come with repercussions I'm sure. Have a good day and a good weekend.

I think when people start claiming racial profiling because authorities want to protect the public that it seems to point to particular ethnic groups being more prone to carry dangerous knives. In my opinion any teen no matter what ethnic groups could be more prone to carrying weapons than most adults. But I also don't believe that all teens would do so.

Profiling does sadly happen with those kind of laws.

I can understand the controversy of introducing this law.

That is scary that the police can do that...Doesn't make people want to be any where Near a cop. Gives too much power to the police. I have a Swiss Army knife I carry all the time, and I know they aren't very big, but they can still do some harm. But it also comes in handy when you need a screw driver, or bottle opener etc. So glad I live in a country that believes in Freedoms...though the Elites sure are trying to take more and more of them away. I hope my friend who makes hand made Knives doesn't go out of buisiness. He lives in Australia.
