Happy June! A new month means a new countdown, and I’m finishing off the birthday celebration I began back in April by wishing happy 60th birthday to thirty songs. I will warn you in advance that seven of these songs are country…so plan accordingly.
Let’s get the ball rolling!
And I Love Her - The Beatles
Hey, wasn’t this Paul guy on my 50-year-old list? Yep, and he could’ve been on the 1984 countdown as well! Appropriate to start the month with a Beatles song, given that Sir Paul will be 82 on the 18th of this month.
As I frequently say in these reflections, they are not made to make anyone feel old. However, this is a reminder that Beatlemania started sixty years ago.
And how quickly they showed their diversity! They went from simple songs like “I Want to Hold Your Hand” and “She Loves You” to this beautiful love in the same year!
I don’t think even Paul feels old thinking that this is now 60 years old. I know the greatness of this song, like “this love of ours,” will never die.

@marguicha — dance like nobody’s watching and sing like nobody’s listening. I sing so badly people who are listening pay me to stop!

Yes they did. This shows they were more than those light songs that first introduced them to the world.

Paul was certainly the master of writing beautiful love songs! And this was not a "SILLY LOVE SONG." I think even John would agree.

Great video! The boys seem so tight and in harmony... Ah, those Early Days

It’s such a perfect and early example of their talents to prove they weren’t a “flash in the pan” act.

There’s something there for just about anyone. Even Frank Sinatra, who loathed rock and roll, said “Something” was one of the most beautiful love songs he’d heard.
