Today's hearing aids can pick up too many signals

Most of my friends here know that my husband, Vince, has had open-heart surgery. It’s now 2 ½ weeks since the operation and he is doing quite well although he has severe pain from time to time. Luckily, he has strong pain-killers for such times.
We went up to the clubhouse tonight for the first time for three or four weeks and it was good to catch up with everyone again. We stayed long enough to have our pizza then came home again.
That’s sort of an update on where he’s at at the moment but what I really wanted to say is that while he was in hospital, he mostly didn’t wear his hearing aids. This is because they are somehow attuned to his phone and it seems, to some of the machines in the hospital ward. So the aids weren't just amplifying the noises around but picking bips and pings from the machines in the vicinity. He was hearing these in his ears.
The photo is of a sunset at Fraser Range on the Nullarbor Plain.

I'm sure it was nice to get out for awhile and enjoy some pizza at the clubhouse.
That must have been extremely annoying to have his hearing aides picking up the noises from the machines. I never would have thought about that happening

Thanks. We have such a lovely country. I hope we get to see some more of it once Vince is fully healed.

I’m glad that he’s doing well. All the noise with the hearing aides has to be annoying.

@JudyEv You're very welcome. My husband insisted on my purchasing a pair of hearing aids for him...and then when it was past the time that I could return them...he said he doesn't need them....Men!

That would be really unpleasant and bizarre. Enough to make you think you are crazy.

He would be asking me what the beeping was and it would be the machine two patients away but he's hearing it in his ear-piece.

Nice to know you went to the club and you both enjoyed the pizza as well.
Hope those hearing aids will be helpful under normal conditions .

I can't say I blame him. technology has advanced that iphones (and probably some other phones) can be used to act as hearing aids with either a hearing aid, or earbuds. You can turn the setting off. But, while he was in the hospital, he likely didn't need them like he does outside of it.

It's true what you say. He had enough going on without worrying about hearing aids.

I didn't know that about modern hearing aids connected to the phone and picking up so many sounds. Interesting.

That is a beautiful sunset, I am glad to hear he is recovering so well, I can imagine how that was annoying with the hearing aids,

It's mostly okay again now we're home. Sometimes there will be something on the phone or computer which he hears in the ear-piece.

It's really weird. Some sounds, even from his computer, happen right in his ear. However, phone, computer and watch are all sort of connected so maybe it's not so surprising.

Luckily, he has left hospital now and it rarely happens any more.

Good he is able to do some limited interaction with others. The aids were probably driving him crazy.

Nice picture.
I think the hearing aids should have a noise cancellation formula or feature.
Else it can be so disturbing!

The sunset is gorgeous!
My hearing aids are linked to my phone, too. That’s a problem when the “connected” sound goes off in my car when my car syncs with Apple Car Play, because the sound plays in the car and in my hearing aids. I haven’t picked up any notifications from alien spacecrafts yet, though.

At best, they're an 'aid' but they can't replace the hearing you used to have.

- I never thought of that!
