Holy cow, it rained!!!! Nothing like the flooding in South Dakota (I can’t believe the Falls Park in Sioux Falls…unreal, and not in a good way
), but it doesn’t feel like an oven out there. Good enough weather for dancing to this song that’s now 60 years old. Here’s today’s song.
#8: You Really Got Me - The Kinks
Don’t you give me that “Diamond Dave trying to scream like Ian Gillan and ending up screaming like Yoko Ono” song from 1977. Ask Scar’s Hoomin, that band is all Sam Halen, all the time anyway!
No, this is the first charted single for the Kinks, yet another British band that we got to hear because record labels thought American kids would mistake any British band for the Beatles.
I got to see the Kinks on their Low Budget tour. Of course this was one of the highlights.
You Really Got Me
Written by Ray Davies
Recorded by The Kinks
Released as a single, 1964

Glad you’re enjoying the rockers, because there’s a country song coming tomorrow. You’ll survive with this and today’s tune.

@LindaOHio — in contrast, rock and roll wasn’t on my tiny radar then.

@FourWalls Country wasn't even on my radar back in the 60s.

I do like the cover version for both of these songs . . . but anyone who knew the original first I'm sure would say nothing beats the original
. What did you honestly think of the VH version
?

I realize that people don’t know that songs are covers when they hear the updated version. I worked with a guy at the post office who thought Poison’s cover of “Your Mama Don’t Dance” was “a great new song.” I had to bring the Loggins & Messina original in for him.

Glad you’re having good weather. Here people are looking for those who say “bring on the heat.”
Glad you enjoyed hearing this one again, too!

Perhaps my favorite Kinks tune.
60 and that song rocks as well today as it did back then! Glad that single took off for them. I read if it failed their record label might have dropped them, yikes...

My favorite Kinks song is “Waterloo Sunset,” but I can definitely understand why anyone and everyone would gravitate to this great classic!!

. In my adult life, I had a figure skating program to a Christmas parody of this song
.
