This is a beautiful movie and a true story, also. The Von Trap family fled from the German government, when Austria was taken over.
Maria wanted to be a nun, until she became a governess for the 7 Von Trap children. She fell in love with the captain and eventually became the children's new mother.
I love the venture they took through the mountains, to find safety for their family.

The Von Trapp family came to the US. They built a lodge in Stowe, Vermont. It's very nice, it was run by the Von Trapp children, but I think they are all deceased now. It is still owned by the family, I think the grandchildren run it. A huge place. I got to stay there years ago on a family trip, a good memory.

This was a miracle, God took care of the Von Trapp family! And those nuns played a big part in their safety and successful escape:)

@LadyDuck My Grandpa spoke German in the home. His family migrated to the US from Prussia.

They were residents of Austria, while it was being taken over by Germany. This is a beautiful true, love story!

I saw that in the theater one time, it was so gorgeous. Of course the story is gripping as well.

Yes, this is a true story, it really did happen this way:) A future nun hired in as a governess, she fell in love with the Captain and eventually they got married:) His seven children had a new mother!
