Cleaning is expensive

I always thought that cleaning people charged a flat fee for house cleaning. For example, $150 to clean the entire house. It turns out that cleaning companies actually charge by the hour and they send a team of people to the house. Some recommend a minimum of three people. The cleaning usually lasts three to four hours but can be more depending on the type of cleaning required and the size of the place.
One place we contacted charged $150/hr and provided three people. Another place charged $100/hr for two people. At say four hours of cleaning it would amount to at least $400, depending on who is hired for the job. That is insane.
I don’t want to spend that much money. Plus, how do I know they won’t take their sweet time with it and won’t damage anything in the process?

I don’t think cleaners do a better job than us.

I found someone on Angi (formerly Angie's List) and went through that platform a few times but then she and I just privately worked out a system so she got all of the $$. Granted it is only an apartment but I was paying her $100 per visit. Recently I started paying $125 (of my own volition) because we all could use some more money these days.

$100 per visit is definitely better than $100/hr.

I'd read their reviews. It's pretty hit-and-miss. I would think that an app like Angie's List would only allow reputable people on their list.

When paid by the hour there is no guarantee they won't spend way more time than necessary to clean the house.

That sounds very expensive. Maybe because it's NY. I pay our housekeeper $20 per hour. You can get an initial cleaning from Homeaglow for $19. I think after that it's around $25 per hour. Check them out online. Have a good day.

Hubby looked into that but I think he got a team that charges $100/hr. But I don’t know. He didn’t tell me who he got and how much he paid. And he wanted to give them a tip on top of it. I said no more than $40. Though if it were me I’d have not given a tip. It’s expensive as it is.

@LindaOHio I wonder why he didn't tell me how much money he spent. Granted I didn't ask but he should've told me even if I didn't.

@lovebuglena A tip is not necessary in my opinion, especially at $100/hr.

One reason I told hubby I don’t want the people to clean my bedroom dresser because it is filled with lots of things that can be accidentally damaged. Better safe than sorry.
They did do something in the living room bathroom which caused a leak and now we gotta figure out what’s causing it and how to fix it. Our contractor will do that but still. This shouldn’t have happened. For now water has been shut off in the house until he can come in and deal with it.
