I like the way that United States Navy (USN) sailor Jalen Carter decided to risk his life by going to the back of a home in Norfolk Virginia on Thursday morning by saving a hog that was inside of a burning home that was not occupied by his owner who was in the process of moving from his home in Virginia Beach when the fire broke out upstairs. Jalen was not injured in the fire. Animal control officials showed up with a net to carry the hog who goes by the name Merlot to animal custody with minor burns until Merlot reunites with his owner. Battalion Chief Greg Williams said that two firefighters suffered heat related injuries from putting out the fire that caused severe damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Jalen admitted that he was doing his job to assist anyone who needed his help. Link is yahoo.com/news/sailor-re... via @YahooNews

This is one of those stories where you wonder what the highlight is? The man who rescued the hog? Or the fact that someone had a hog in their house?

Most likely the hog being rescued by the sailor and animal control officer was the highlight.

@Deepizzaguy You didn't catch my drift on this one. As a matter of fact, I'd say it flew right over your head.

Merlot does not look very big at all. I am glad he was rescued.

I am sure that the hog is a small hog when he was rescued by the sailor and others.

I'm glad they rescued the hog. I'm sorry the home suffered severe damage. I'm glad the owner wasn't home at the time.

I am in agreement with you that the hog was rescued even though the house was severely damaged.

Pigs are very strong and could prove hard to rescue I think.

Pigs are very hard for a lot of people to carry and rescue.

Poor animal. Pet owner should be thankful to the sailor for what he did.

I am sure that the hog owner will appreciate what the sailor did to rescue his pet in the fire.

I guess the hog was inside of the home while his owner was moving from his former home for the time being.
