Learned Something New About Hunting

I have never hunted and my husband doesn't hurt. We have no desire at all to do it, so we never think about different aspects of it.
Well yesterday I received in the mail our monthly homeowners insurance magazine and it has the most interesting article.
The article is telling hunters not to shoot at power lines. It says as Dove hunting season is approaching, that Dove Hunters need to realize the hazards of firing at doves that are sitting on power lines and fiber optic lines. Doves like to rest for awhile on power lines.
Firing at doves on power lines is always a very very bad idea because extensive damage can occur that can cause power outages, Internet outages and can cost thousands of dollars in repair costs. It could lead to power bills being higher.

That would be a stupid thing to do. But some people anymore need to be told

Glad they brought that up. It must happen otherwise they probably wouldn't have felt the need to include an article on it.

Some people eat them. I know, gross , but once many years ago my Mom's friend's husband had hunted doves and brought some home and they had it for dinner. She told my Mom it was not that bad. I was grossed out to hear about it.

This is a very interesting article, valuable knowledge for those who shoot at doves.

No one should ever shoot at a power line for any reason. Have a good day.

Dove hunters. Ugh! I used to help my ex cut up venison. We did it for his brother and got free meat for doing so. I don't care for hunting of any kind but when it is just for food I can at least see some reason for it.

I do not go hunting myself. Great advice never to shoot at animals who are resting on power lines since it can kayo electrical power.

Oh goodness, how dumb some people are! Doves are so sweet and gentle, it hurts to think of people hunting them. I can picture people hunting geese, though.

It's so interesting that you posted this discussion. About a month ago, my son and I went out to a local shooting range to do some target shooting with our shotguns (shooting at clay targets that are launched into the air via a machine, to mimic a bird flying by). At this particular shooting range there are power lines that cross right through the field where you shoot, and I was commenting to my son that it was weird that they would let us shoot with power lines so close by.

@LeaPea2417 Maybe my perception of how far the shotgun pellets travelled was incorrect. It looked to me like the power lines were too close, but who knows? Maybe the shotgun pellets only traveled half the distance to the power lines before losing their velocity and falling to the ground.

No one in our family hunts, just saying.
We have so many doves in Connecticut that rest on the power lines between feeding on the ground beneath our bird feeders. I think that those idiots that don’t know better need reminders such as this. How stupid can one be?

@DianneN My husband worked with a guy who hunted deer. I was shocked to learn that his wife and teenage son hunted with him too, and what was even more surprising was that the wife also knew how to gut deer right after the hunt. I can't even imagine gutting a deer.

People can truly do stupid things. Incredible that they have to be told not to do something that dumb.

A friend recently rented a new apartment. In her lease it says ''do not use charcoal grills in your home, or portable gas grills (like you would use on a patio...DUH. Do we really have to actually tell people that? I guess so!
