When it comes to food, our cat Cal is the one you have to literally watch like a hawk. Last night we made a meatloaf for dinner, and we knew Cal was eyeballing it on the counter while we ate. "Don't even think of it," we told him, sternly. When it comes to cats you always like to tell yourself the message is received. But of course, they're cats. They don't receive messages. They deliver ultimatums and demands. We hadn't put the meatloaf away yet and my wife was dozing off in her chair. I suddenly saw Cal come around the corner, plop down on the living room rug and began licking his chops and cleaning his paws. "Wait a minute," I said and got up to inspect the meatloaf. Yep. He'd gotten into it. Why, that little... Tonight's meal will be Chinese. Ahem.
