Just because I’m up early and ready to go to the State Fair doesn’t mean you get an escape from another song on my list of favorites with an homage to rock and roll in the title. And, for today’s song, I present a band that I had a number of selections to choose from. In the end, this won…and almost made the top ten. Sing along.
Sheena Is a Punk Rocker - Ramones
Yes, I’m skipping “Do You Remember Rock and Roll Radio” and “Rock and Roll High School.” This is probably one of the best-known Ramones songs around. It’s also pretty historic, as it’s one of the first (if not the first) song to reference punk rock in the title.
Oh, and Sheena wasn’t a girlfriend of one of the band members. That was a direct reference to Sheena, Queen of the Jungle (no relation to Ramar of the Jungle mentioned in Jimmy Buffett’s “Pencil Thin Mustache”), a comic book and TV show in the 50s.
One of the classic songs by one of the classic bands of punk.
Sheena Is a Punk Rocker
Written by Joey Ramone
Recorded by the Ramones
From Rocket to Russia, 1977
New York City really has it all:

I wasn’t a great fan of the punk era, but I do remember The Ramones, and this song. My favourite of theirs was Blitzkrieg Bop
My favourite UK Punk Rock band was The Stranglers. They became less punk as the years went on but of the era I liked No More Heroes.
So, back to The Ramones…..
Hey Ho, Let’s Go!

They use “hey ho, let’s go” as “cheering” music at sports games here in America now.
I liked the Stranglers, too.

Indeed. They did a lot with three chords and two minutes.

I've always heard about the Ramones but never was exposed to their music. Not my genre. Have a good day.

Now you have been, and you think it’s better than country music but not by much.

There were so many acts that got unfairly lumped under the punk umbrella then…mainly because they were so fresh and innovative that nobody knew WHAT to do with them. Seriously, Elvis Costello and Talking Heads “punk”?!?
The Ramones, to me, were just rockabilly with louder guitars.

@FourWalls I agree. Those "punks" became mainstream legends. Even Green Day were once considered punk and now they have Broadway shows. lol

They were the masters of two-minute songs. I saw them in 1991 and they played 22 songs in ONE HOUR.

slope. I know him from this U2 song. I love it. I never would have described it about being about a hangover but I still love it. It is one of the songs I would want played at a memorial for me.

That is a cool story. I tend to agree it’s more of a “gospel song” than about a hangover.
