Mario came and I told him what to do with the leaves in the garage. He even brought a pair of thick gloves for the old palm leaves he has cut before. Just when we were talking where to put themcso that they would not fine me the garbage truck came. And so the bartering started. They wanted me to tell them how much money would I pay them to take it all. I said that I didn´t make deals that way. I wanted to know what they asked and then I´d say yes or no. Their only argument was that they were 5 people. But that was not a good one. They named a price, I came inside to see if I had that amount and returned saying to leave it as I did not have that (I did though). I knew what they had charged my brother but he is blond and I´m brunette. Racism works both ways here. I get better prices in Mexico too because I´m not a "güera". They finally accepted my money as they saw that I would not relent. Mario filled Luna´s food box and opened an impossible cap. Then, over a piece of cake, I asked him how much I owed him. He answered that the piece of cake was enough payment. I washed and boiled the mussels and when they are cold I´ll take them out of their shell and place them in a Tupperware with their broth. It will be part of a good risotto but I´ll steal some mussels to eat today with mayo. The evening was perfect. How was yours?
