An orchid and chocolates

I’ve written that we picked up elderly friends from the airport a few days ago. Yesterday they visited and brought us some chocolates which they’d brought back with them from England and an orchid plant. We were very touched but now I am very worried about keeping such a beautiful plant alive. I’m not very good with indoor plants and orchids have a reputation for being difficult to care for. I need to find a place for it where it will get enough light for its needs. These friends visit every few weeks at least and I’d like to have the orchid somewhere where our friends can see it. The chocolates aren’t going to be a problem! lol

It is very difficult to keep orchids alive. I feel your pain. Maybe you should read everything you can on orchid care and make it a personal challenge to keep it alive. If worse comes to worse maybe you could buy a duplicate, fake one and they;ll never know.. Or if they ask about it, you could say you are keeping the spirit of the orchid alive!

I have the same trouble with cyclamens. I did think about buying a duplicate! And I'm reading up about them too.

@snowy22315 I've decided to put in in my bathroom window as there is plenty of light there and a certain amount of humidity. And once you find a good spot you're not supposed to keep moving them around. So that's what I've learnt so far!

I also killed my two indoor plants! I am pathetic when taking care of plants!

I would surely have helped you with the chocolates...but as you said, you don't have any problem with that. The orchid is beautiful...they last long...I had a cousin who brought some for me. So I came to know a little about them. You better make it survive...Evil Grin...they wouldn't like you neglecting it...would they?

I fully agree with you. Chocolates can never pose problems (lol) Orchids are fussy and they do need morning sunlight. I am sure you will find the right spot for them.

I've put them in the bathroom window as that room is a bit humid.

@JudyEv You may want to seek some guidance by browsing as Orchids do need pampering.

How sweet of them! I hope you can keep the orchid alive. I remember a friend gave me a flower once, and I bent over backwards to keep that thing alive. I sang to it, got it the appropriate light, the right amount of water…I obsessed over that thing.

I just watched this. Thanks very much. Now I'm going to move my orchid out of the bathroom. The guy says not to put them in a window so I'll have to find somewhere else for it. Thanks again.

I wouldn't try to grow one but I found a video that might help you. The problem is that I have no idea which variety you've been given:

I just checked and it's one of the 'moth' variety - Phalaenopsis. I watched the video and it was really helpful. Thanks very much.

The orchid looks lovely, but I did not look at it for more than I should, as I was afraid that my poor luck with these plants would come across the internet and cause it to die. Now the chocolates, those I am sure you will do well with.

@JudyEv That is another plant that I cannot grow, I have tried and failed so many times that I have given up on them. They are on my endangered species list.

This orchid looks a lot like one I had received from a friend. I arrived to keep it alive during 7 years, but last year I managed to kill it. I love chocolate truffles.

We have been having a mixed experience with plants - indoor or outdoor. Some grow well enough. Some don't due to less care. Yet perplexingly, some have lag in growth due to unexplained reasons and even after getting good sunshine, water and anti insect powder. What brand chocolates were they?

The chocolates are from Marks and Spencer in England and are Swiss Truffles. They are going to be SOOOO good.
