Hardcore country and post-punk. Just another day in my musical world. No wonder everyone is scratching their heads over these lists. I really do love all of these songs. I made this list originally in 1995, so it’s not like I said, “Hmm, how can I thoroughly confuse myLot readers?” Anyway, here’s today’s song from the Hot 100. Is She Really Going Out With Him? - Joe Jackson Pretty women out walking with gorillas down my street THAT is an opening line. And that was the line that pretty much introduced the world to Joe Jackson with this, his first charted hit. This wasn’t meant to be serious (with an opening line like that, or the later line, “They say that looks don’t count for much, and so there goes your proof”), and I never took it that way. It’s one of Jackson’s best-known songs. When I saw him in 1982, he did an a cappella version of it! And how about this: both today’s country song and rock song peaked at the same position — #21 — on their respective charts in their respective years. Is She Really Going Out With Him? Written by Joe Jackson Recorded by Joe Jackson From Look Sharp!, 1978 Peak chart position: #21 Today’s country song: “How the Other Half Lives” Wash my hair and kid myself I look real smooth:

Me too. It’s not that “heavy” with the original recording, and I just LOVED the a cappella version. Here’s a video of it:

This song always made me laugh. As they say beauty is in the eye ... or rather, heart of the beholder

Joe has a great sense of humor, and it frequently shows in the songs.

When I first saw Joe Jackson in the 80s on MTV I thought he looked strange for "rocker." At the same time, this is a good song, and I had actually forgotten about this one. Time to add this one to my "Yardwok" playlist on Spotify.

Gallagher once said, “Does Joe Jackson have to be in his videos?” It’s still about the music to me. If not, I never could have listened to Lyle Lovett.
