Now that I’ve had lunch I can relax and annoy you with another song from my favorite songs to make the Billboard Hot 100. This is one that my dear mother of blessed memory LOVED. She heard it from my 45 of it. Here we are, nearly 50 years later, and I still love it.
Living Next Door to Alice - Smokie
No, @scarred4Lyfe , this isn’t about having Vincent Furnier in the neighborhood.
This is a pretty funny song, if you think about it, with poor Sally trying to beat it into the guy’s head that she’s available.
It’s sadly humorous to look at the chart performance of this song. It was top ten on 13 different charts throughout the world. America? Didn’t make the top 20.
Maybe a live version with the infamous audience chant of “Alice, Alice, who the (bleep) is Alice” might have done better here.
Living Next Door to Alice
Written by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman
Recorded by Smokie
Released as a single, 1976
Peak chart position: #25
Today’s country song: “I Take the Chance”

@FourWalls Medicare called me back when I was on the toilet. I thought for a moment I was LBJ.

It wasn’t very popular in Canada, either.

It has a humorous twist to it at the end.

Great song, and made more memorable, as you say, by the version featuring Roy Chubby Brown.

Sometimes it takes the right addition to help a song.

It was quite popular in Australia. Obviously bombed here as you can tell from the replies.

Not bad. I prefer it when they are singing together. Have a good day.
