Along with the obscure country song let’s go way back to the first year of the Billboard Hot 100 list, 1955. Yes, I know this isn’t “rock.” And yes, I know this is a great song. Here’s today’s song.
Memories Are Made of This - Dean Martin
Hey, it’s a Rat Packer! (Not the last one, either.
) And for some real trivia, this was co-written by the man who wrote the Disney song “The Bare Necessities.” How about that?!
Terry Gilkyson (co-writer in question) and his group, the Easy Riders (no relation to the movie or the rolling papers), sang back-up on this song. And Dean Martin just nailed the delivery.
A timeless classic.
Memories Are Made of This
Written by Terry Gilkyson, Richard Dehr, and Frank Miller
Recorded by Dean Martin
Released as a single, 1955
Peak chart position: #1
Today’s country song: “Mental Cruelty”

One of his biggest hits. We had Dean Martin albums in the house, which sounded a little strange next to all the country music, but that probably explains the weirdness of these lists.

@FourWalls we had a variety of music in our house. My dad was the music person and my mom really didn't care much. Dean Martin was a big yes from my childhood memories

@FourWalls It was pretty good, thanks. My hubby's 2nd cousin came over and made copies for the appeal and worked on my to-do list.

I would have put that song on the list, too, if it had been three years later (it came out before the advent of the Hot 100 charts).
