I have always admired Stephen King. I have such a love/hate relationship with his books. I loved "Cujo" and" Pet Sematary" but hated "The Shining" and "Salem's Lot". Misery was a shocker for me. I can't watch "It". I was surprised to learn that "Stand By Me", "Shawshank Redemption" and The Green Mile were all by him. I thought it would be fun to do a list of facts about this guy. * He has written books every decade since the 70s. He says he writes fast and can finish a book in 3 months. * He had his first story published in 1967. It was "The Glass Floor". * His first book, "Carrie" was published by Doubleday & Co. in 1973. * He has received many awards such as the Bram Stoker Award and several others. * Stephen is the 2003 recipient of The National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters. * He is a philanthropist and he and his wife, Tabitha, give $4 million each year to libraries, fire departments, and schools. In 1986 they created The Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation, a non-profit providing grants to organizations in Maine. * As well as being a novelist he has also worked as a TV producer, screenwriter, actor, columnist, and director. * He is worth $500 million.
